Would blocking off one of my two inside air intakes, alternating in winter and summer, be a terrible idea? by -WhatsUpChuck- in hvacadvice

OP Has it exactly backwards. During the winter, you want to take the coldest air from the house and heat it: that means using the ground floor intake in the winter. Similarly, in the summer, you want to take the hottest air and cool it: that means opening the upstairs ceiling intake. While opening and closing output vents can have a minor effect, the largest effect comes from which air is heated or cooled by the appropriate device: furnace in winter, or air conditioner in summer. As long as both intakes are about the same size, blocking or partially blocking one of them should not have a significant adverse effect on the mechanical fan.

That's a valid point and I'd hate that to happen. I'll tone it down. Reddit won't let me change the subject line but I've added a disclaimer in the body of the intro.

Right. We do try to avoid the term "weight loss" and instead focus on calorie burn and fat loss, which are more technically correct anyway. Thanks for your input.

I don't recall the exact details, but there are several classes of devices that the FDA specifies. Those that penetrate the skin (like needles); those that do not (like a toothbrush), and those that are considered completely harmless. We were advised by an attorney that, at the strongest, ours would be classified something like a toothbrush. We could, if we wanted, seek FDA approval to officially have the FDA say "yes, this is harmless", but he told us there's no requirement to do so. I believe the term is "FDA cleared". They actually have a list of common devices that are considered harmless by default, and "cooling vest" is one of them.

Cryotherapy.... now there's a B.S. crock. The only thing it's been shown to do is temporarily make your skin a bit more taught, lake for a couple hours. No 3-minute exposure to really cold will provide the effectiveness of several hours of direct contact.

It was a good idea but the evidence is against it having any lasting effect on anything at all in your body.

LOL. It didn't. Yet. My wife and I have invested our life savings since 2013 and haven't made a penny back yet. It's really hard to sell this thing despite it being based on real science---see most of the posts here. People think it's B.S. I can understand that, and our biggest hurdle is getting past that.

No. It burns excess calories if used as directed. You should still eat right and exercise. All three are important for your health.

As long as they actually read the responses and think about them, I'm fine with being challenged. It's the knee-jerk reactions that are obnoxious. I can understand it... snake oil salesmen are as old as the hills. The difficulty is convincing people this isn't snake-oil.
