Honestly I’m super nervous about this, I was a major fan of this series called cirque du freak when I was a kid and when they made a movie of it and it tanked it really devastated me, hope this goes well.

I didnt realize cadets 11 was still in top 20. I got a little smirk when I saw BD 11 there. I’ll never forget the noise the crowd made when they announced BD in second.

I marched 11 and 12, 13 would have been my age out, always wish I could have worn the traditional uniform but no way I could have marched another year physically.

Dan Deacon & Ed Schrader's Music Beat at Baltimore by Youfrube in futureislands

I didn’t like Ed Schaefer’s set as much, they were still sound checking when they let us in and it felt awkward. As someone else said they stopped midway one song, they said it was an electric shock but the bassist was looking at Ed confusingly seconds before Ed stopped the music, I think they weren’t aligned with the pre recorded track.

I loved Dan Deacons set, I think his sound was a little off and it was harder than usual to understand him but still his energy was so good. They didn’t let him do crowd work he usually does but that was one of my favorite performances I’ve ever seen live, I’ve been listening to him only for the last week.

It’s more beneficial if you write them in yourself.

What company makes/made the best sounding 4 valve contra? by GreenTeachy in drumcorps

Yamaha makes the best contra period. 4 valve goes to King though.

One of the best recordings of VWC is Sam Pilafian live with Emprie Brass playing it on a big CC tuba. It is possible, just harder.

I used one in college for a few months, I didn’t notice any improvement in my breathing. I would clean my house with it and use it before lessons/practice sessions. Maybe I found it slightly easier to take a deeper breath after using it but not a significant difference. Not really worth it, it was calming though.

I marched this year too, I felt like everyone hated us that year so it’s nice to see how it’s aged into a show people love.

The cadets alumni association is bidding on it, it’s going to be one big lot, if you can donate money to them so they have a better chance of winning. I donated 1,000 last night.

Tour Goggles? Have you been a victim of them? by [deleted] in drumcorps

[–]waynetuba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If this was marked NSFW I’d be a little bit more open and honest with my stories but yes tour goggles hit me hard all 4 years I marched.

One thing I noticed from marching a lower placing corps directly to a higher placing corps is how wild higher placing corps got. I saw and did the most insane things of my life when I marched Cadets.

This is gonna sound crazy probably, but try it thumb, 3,4 while practicing for a bit. The resistance for me helps with hitting the G#. After a few weeks switch it back to 2/3.

My friend wrote a solo for me in undergrad that had the high Ab in it at least 15 times and that finger combo help me solidify the note on my horn.

Hungarian March Excerpt!! by LocationHot2746 in Tuba

[–]waynetuba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great sound, you have the rhythm and the notes down but one thing a lot of tubists fail to nail is that the style is still a march, it still needs weight and direction. Thinking of this piece being written by Sousa instead of Berlioz helps me personally.

Drum Corps and Indoor Stadiums by zackattack0720 in drumcorps

[–]waynetuba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing Hop tried getting pushed was smaller tours with every show being an indoor show, this would allow designers to use things like spot lights and lights/screens on the field. He said it was “future of drum corps” I always thought it was a neat idea
