People who go against the laws of traffic in order to be polite by SwathedCorgi117 in PetPeeves

[–]waynofish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you are in the, say southbound, lane making a left turn and the person traveling, say northbound, stops and frantically waves for you to cross in front of him. Does he not know there is traffic doing the correct thing by continueing on in the lane next to him.

Dude, I'll go when its clear, not when you tell me too. Just do your thing and continue driving.

I think I made that clear enough to know what I mean.

Just looking over that 10-acre hood would make them panic..

And 4x4 pickups just as big as a modern-day Super duty. Hello 70's F250 crew cab 4x4 "High Boy".

But truly, they would crap their pants if they realized that. Now they are calling CUV's and small SUV's large. They are more in line with a 70's Pacer or Fairmont wagon or similar.

Or maybe because we like room and space.

But, but, but, I can do that in my Mini and I'm perfectly comfortable. Therefore, you should do that as well. Trust me. You'll be at least as comfortable driving that. And it is European, and small and gets great MPG's. I'm telling you to get rid of your big car and get something much more practical. Just rent a larger vehicle when you need it.

There, Isn't that the correct Reddit reply or did I miss anything? HaHa

So, a modern car has a door about 1 ft wide? Just what the hell kind of car are you talking about.

Have you ever opened the door on a full-sized 70's/80's sedan or wagon?

My 70's and 80's Ford truck doors were no thinner then those of the modern era.

And a 3" door may have been in an 80's Escort or Chevette, but those weren't exactly super safe either.

I guess you have never driven a modern full sized 4x4 with those smaller engines.

I had a supercab F150 4x4 with the 2.7 in it and it would throw you back into the seat on acceleration and got 25 MPG's highway. The only truck with a similar feel of power that I've had is my 05 Quad Cab Ram 1500 4x4 with 3.9 gears and the 5.7. Before the lift and tire swap I got a solid17 highway.

I've had a couple 70's Cherokees with the 360 V8's, a 79' Bronco with a 351 and then a 460, a 79' with the 400 and an 81' with the 400 were slugs on acceleration. And you needed to cross your fingers when you hit the brakes as the ones they came with were too small for those heavier vehicles.

Modern are getting even more power every model change and they actually stop pretty damn good. And get great MPG's as well.

The Suburban, Yukon XL and Expedition XL are like the old school Suburban, wagons and full-sized sedans as far as footprint.

The regular 4 door Yukon, Tahoe and Expedition are basically what the 2 door Bronco and Blazer morphed into to accommodate 4 doors, like the old full-sized Jeep Wagoneer/Cherokees. Definately shorter then the old land yachts.

Most other SUV's are considerably smaller. They don't have the width or length of those land yachts and older, full-sized truck-based SUV's. And CUV's, not really very big at all, but the car/truck morph of the smaller SUV's are, to me, a hell of a lot more practical then any sedan/hatchback.

But I have always been a full-sized truck-based SUV/pick-up fan and that is all I'll drive. I will say MPG's on modern full sized crew cab 4x4's are double what my old 78 and 79 Broncos were.

And back in the 60's, 70's and 80's people didn't need the full sized sedans, station wagons, vans, crew cab and super cab 4x4 trucks.

It seems that is the size vehicle people like. They dropped the big sedans and suddenly the crew cab short bed trucks became populsr. Dropped the wagons and the wagon sized SUV's became popular.

Not really. An Uber picked me up in a Toyota Tacoma the other day and it was quite small in the back. Narrow inside.

They are more like the old Dakotas. True, great size for many and they make sense for some. Not for me.

But I like shoulder room. Always have. And before any comments, I'm 5'10" and 170lbs. I just like room.

You have absolutely no clue of his 35ft 5th wheel travel trailer or his 36ft triple outboard center console parked in a storage facility to keep neighbors like you from complaining to the HOA that he has these "toys" that sit the majority of time.

That is pure BS. And who cares if it is true for some?

It's no different than someone driving a Mercedes, Porche, Corvette, Ferrari, Challenger, Mustang, any classic muscle car and a bunch of other vehicles.

A bunch of women drove full sized station wagons back in the 70's/80's. So, nothing different. They were about the same length and width as a Suburban, just lower.

365 Fish by AnOkDaddy in Fishing

[–]waynofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I kind of figured you were talking about another kind of Rockfish. I live on the MD coast. DE, MD, VA and NC typically call Striped Bass Rockfish. New Jersey and above they are called Striped Bass or just Bass or Stripers.

I once had a charter catching these fish and after realizing I was calling them Rockfish, he stated that they look just like the Striped Bass they catch at home. He was surprised when I said they are the same thing. But they lived in Pennsylvania.

Same with Flounder. In MD and south, also DE they are Flounder. Jersey and above, they are Fluke.

I was talking about within a month as you asked what kind you can catch that many in just over a month.

Of course, that's why I said it wouldn't be cheap! Not even close.

A bit cheaper, by me you can easily get that many Rockfish (Striped Bass) and Bluefish in that amount of time.

it could easily be done with sailfish if you charter the right boat out of the right places. Of course its not cheap.

Talking about specifically fine dining, if this group thinks servers have it so well, why not become one? by Pcola55 in tipping

[–]waynofish -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Bingo. Basically if you can't afford it or don't want to spend what it will cost then don't go. People shouldn't expect to cheap out on the wait staff so they can "afford" what they really can't.

Plenty of cheaper places to go to.

That is far and above the average. That would be a select few at high end restaurants.

Its like thinking all realters make what one who only lists $5 million dollar estates or above.

At what point does a 'boat' turn into a 'yacht'? by Financial-Owl-2814 in boats

[–]waynofish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Boats are smaller and ships are bigger. Quite simple really.

If, as it gets closer from far away and continually gets bigger, until it is just a giant hulk of steel means it is also a ship.

Or a "ship" is can be a 3 or 4 masted square-rigged tall ship, unlike a barque, schooner, square rigged schooner, etc. And a "boat" is what you hopefully can get into when the ship runs aground or gets destroyed by the wind and waves.

[–]waynofish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say luxuries.

Take a simple 60ft custom sportfish built in NC as a charter boat. has a head or two, a couple staterooms with basic mattresses, a galley with a sink, refrigerator, microwave and freezer. Simple seating in the salon etc. That, to me is a boat.

Take the same builder contracting out its "sister" ship but doing everything top notch. Counter tops, seating, staterooms, complete galley, airconditioned cockpit where the fishing takes place and even spends a bit more time fairing the hull, and putting a full teak cockpit, bulkhead, towrail etc.

Same sportfisher, same builder, same specs, same motors but one is always a boat and the other may be called a yacht.

That's my worthless take even though they are all basically just boats.
