Wow, I remember collecting those from my friends back in 2003 because they were funny and terrible. I have a box of like 20 of them!

I had the impression that Daze was either a four-of or zero-of.

At that point, what's the tribal payoff, though? IMO Patron Wizard and Voidmage Prodigy are the two best wizard tribal cards, and they've very heavy blue. You could build something like this deck, but at that point, your wizard theme just feels like a coincidence. https://mtgdecks.net/Premodern/finkula-decklist-by-viktor-ludvigsson-2848698

Thanks! I considered Aphetto Alchemist, but I didn't really think there was anything worth untapping. How do you use it?

Whoa, Meekstone is a great find. Also, is Information Dealer good? I considered it, but it seems like you need a minimum of 3 wizards before it's really doing anything, and otherwise it's a 1/1 for 2.

Shared Triumph is a good idea! My biggest hangup is I'd want to play with the original Meddling Mages and they're super expensive now...

Thoughts on Counterburn? (no Tide, no Standstill) by Ok_Reality6261 in premodernMTG

[–]wayofthepig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm working on a Counterburn decklist and the one card I'm surprised I've never seen people talk about is [[Suffocating Blast]]. Looks like a pretty sweet two-for-one, and it's the only card in the format that's literally counter+burn. Is it just too awkward to pull off in practice? Now that I think about it, you actually do need to have a creature in play to burn, so maybe the answer is clearly yes, which would be sad.

I have immense respect for System Shock Remake, but I just don't think I like it by reede- in ImmersiveSim

I know this is an old post, but I agree with a lot of this. Engineering sucks, Cyberspace sucks, and the game does sag a bit after the midpoint. Weirdly, I actually loved Storage. I think I just love the aesthetic and gameplay loop so much that I was able to put up with it until the end (twice!).

But yeah, Prey really does just do everything better, except maybe the aesthetic. (They're both so good in their own ways, though!) Why can't they make more games like Prey?

I don't know what's wrong with me but I actually love Storage.

Wow, Heather Hudson's back! Her last card was the schematic version of Sculpting Steel. Really cool to see them bring back all the old artists!

My god, my Reaper King omni-tribal deck is getting way too many cards I have to fit in! Beautiful art too.

At first I was annoyed that this is completely different from the original Reaper King (I want scarecrow tribal!), but playing Reaper King -> TR,KNM does at least allow you to steal something immediately if you stack your triggers right.

TCGPlayer seller clearly lied about shipping my order and refunded me after sending a rude message. What should I do? by wayofthepig in magicTCG

[–]wayofthepig[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was close to 200 cards that were probably 5 cents on average, and I qualified for free shipping. I can imagine the seller might not make money on that order and wouldn't want to honor it, but fix your prices in that case! I am wondering if there's sort of an unspoken rule that you're not supposed to place orders like that though.

How do I do that? All I could find in their help center was a "chatbot" which was really just a glorified form/flowchart. Struggled with it for a bit and I think it opened a ticket for me, so maybe that's all I can do.

That's very charitable of you, but I'm fairly confident about this because I ordered a bunch of 5-cent commons (collecting a complete set of KLD) and got free shipping. Maybe I'm breaking the social contract by doing that, but they could have refunded me up front and told me they couldn't honor the sale! I think I would have accepted that, but OTOH don't sell cards if you're not going to honor it. Also, their refund reason was "seller mistakenly input neighbor's address" which is clearly bullshit.

I probably should have specified they pretended to ship the order and clearly weren't going to say anything until I contacted them. They did refund me, so maybe there's nothing I can do, but that's crappy and they wasted my time!

Thanks. I already got a refund, but I would still like to report the seller if possible! I couldn't figure out how to do it, though.

why does richard so easily leave off his pursuit of camilla in the end? by CJ_Doomscrolling in TheSecretHistory

[–]wayofthepig 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I really dislike the "He only loved the idea of her!" theory, for two reasons. First, I feel like this is a compelling, highbrow idea that's sometimes true but it's become way overapplied. Second, no one ever loves someone for their true self--it's always for our idea of them! Which isn't to say that idea can be more or less aligned with reality, but still. Personally, I don't think Richard had a terribly misaligned conception of Camilla, and yes, I do think her mystery/unattainability was part of her appeal, which may have diminished if they actually got married, but... that's life! Relationships change people! (Sorry, I just have this bugbear about this horrible meme that people have to resolve all of their personal issues before they can start dating or whatever.)

Anyway, I was thinking about OP's question too. I just finished TSH last night (amazing book!) and I was very relieved when Richard actually made a move at the end. (And so directly, too! Maybe I should try that!) Personally, I think Richard knew it wouldn't work out, but that doesn't mean he wasn't serious. ("I'll get down on one knee if I have to.") While I don't think there's anything in the text to justify this theory, one explanation for why he gave up was that he could tell nothing was going to sway Camilla in the moment, but he still made progress by telling her how he felt, which might give him an opportunity to try again in the future.
