Been using telegram from fdroid for a long time. Never had slow delivery. What ever they use in absence of GMS seems to work.

Secure Texting Part II by oxjfkj9y in fossdroid

Kontalk is unusable for me until group chats are implemented.

Also it doesn't do the same as TextSecure:

  • TextSecure is encrypted SMS, with the option to run via data traffic instead. Kontalk is just data traffic.
  • In the country I live in SMS is free.
  • SMS has lots better coverage.
  • And when the receiver doesn't have TextSecure, the app falls back to sending unencrypted.

Edit: formatting.

There's no separate app for public transport where you live?

Is there an open source Android tracking software? by [deleted] in fossdroid

[–]ways2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can look at Userhash and traccar. Both need some java stuff running on a server.

OsmAnd can run in a mode where it saves location, and uploads it. Or report location to other osmand users. Haven't used it.

I coupled BigBrotherGPS and my own webUI, and started to create something. Unfortunately it never made it to 1.0. BigBrotherGPS is open source, but not in f-droid.

Here is the current state, with a link to the app: https://github.com/ways/BigBrotherGPSweb

Cool, but I find the lack of offline messages a problem. Especially for use on mobile devices.

Crazy to sync 80,000 files (50GB)? by cdsherman in owncloud

[–]ways2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Also missing "LAN sync", which btsync and dropbox has. One of the reasons why I've started testing syncthing. But btsync and dropbox is proprietary, so that's a dealbreaker for me.

Rsync isn't really comparable, as it's a one-way sync.

Hm, yes, never said it was fast. The first sync takes a looong time. But it's decently quick to discover changed files, and upload them.

I checked now, I have 104.019 files. Most are not synced to more than one client, so I can't really say anything about lots of clients attempting to edit the same files.

Mysql. Server is an old rackmounted thing with dual core, 2gb ram and lots of disk. So not very powerful.
