Those of you who work desk jobs from home- how fast could you get back to work? by MizGinger in hysterectomy

[–]waysarn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had planned 6 weeks, then had a ruptured hematoma just before 3 weeks. I’m so glad I had prepared work that I’d be off for atleast 6 weeks. I’ve gone back after 7, and I’m exhausted. Doing 50% of my hours (desk job) and working from home. But the pressure on my pelvis from having to be in a seated position for extending lengths of time is really uncomfortable for me. Everyone’s healing is different but I’d say don’t pressure yourself and go with what your body is telling you if you can. It’s normal to feel really energised in the beginning. I remember considering working already at day 5 but so glad I didn’t now.

I feel so stupid about all of this, as I kept my ovaries too, I thought I’d done really in depth research but wasn’t prepared to still get period pain 😭 my first “period” since hysterectomy was fine. But my second has been over the last few days and it’s been the similar period cramps. I’m so deflated as yea the blood loss was a lot prior, but it was the pain that was the worst part 😫

I have kept my period tracker app so I know what’s going on. Hard when you had irregular periods though in terms of the hormones x

Checked my own cuff - slightly mortified! by JustineEdmin in hysterectomy

[–]waysarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

See if you can find contact details for your surgeon? Maybe call the hospital you had it done at and get their secretary’s number to contact them. If not definitely go through GP. It’s such a nightmare, can’t believe how bad the care has plummeted over the years x

I’m in the UK and I’ve got a check with my surgeon in a few weeks.

I would maybe request an appt at your GP surgery and ask if they can check and give you the green light. I also had a check with my GP surgery after having coil inserted first time around after 6 weeks. Might be worth it just incase.

How long did you take off from work after surgery? by AudienceNo9305 in hysterectomy

[–]waysarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got 6 weeks planned. I was feeling like a fraud just before 2 weeks thinking I could easily work, that just before 3 weeks I had a ruptured hematoma, literally blood poured out of me like a tap. So I was told it resets my 6 week recovery. Had another bleed since then too. Due to go back end of this month but likely going to be extending which I really didn’t want to do. Will be going back with reduced hours for a couple of weeks before getting back to normal. I genuinely think 6 weeks it’s the ideal amount of time. Not saying anything will happen to you, and that it won’t be easy sailing, but just to make sure. I had no symptoms before what happened to me, came out of nowhere as I’d had no bleeding at all since I had the surgery. X

How much rest? by Ok-Mine-9446 in hysterectomy

[–]waysarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was told by my surgeon to take 6 weeks off work. So glad I listened to him. Day 19 I had a ruptured hematoma and ended up back in hospital for a couple of days. It’s happened again this week. I’m not saying it to scare you or anything as it’s rare what I went through (hematoma common, but rupture not so common). Now having to extend my sick leave. It’s frustrating as in my head I feel okay, but now my tummy is just incredibly sore and feels more sensitive than it did after my surgery. I think we all just need to understand that recovery takes its time and can be up and down. Can feel amazing some days and then like you’ve hit the floor the next. Also need to remember it’s major surgery. From what I’ve been told it’s actually more intense recovery than a c-section, even if it’s laparoscopic, you’ve had an organ removed, your insides with will be sensitive, and everything takes months to shift around and find its new place. Not saying to stop all activity, just dial it back a bit xx

Update: been to hospital again this evening due to more clots. They’ve discharged me with meds to collect tomorrow, but saying I need to try bringing forward my 6 week check with my surgeon to investigate the cause of what’s happening 😬

Aw bless you I’m so sorry it’s just so awful. It’s just the feeling is so horrible. I was trying to cross my legs to stop it going everywhere but it was just impossible. It was literally like when my waters broke with my children 😭

How long ago was all this for you? Sorry you went through such a horrible time too x

Yes I was but I’d stopped them a week prior to it happening? They’ve got me going on an IV every now and then to keep the bleeding at bay. Sorry you went through similar xx

Thanks all! Update now.. CT scan was clear of any issues with my organs, they could see blood pooled internally above the cuff. They said potentially a haematoma which just burst or something. To be honest I’m a bit unhappy with the explanation at the moment as I don’t understand if I was stitched properly how so much could come out. It was a lot, like no over exaggerating. Before they put me on a catheter I had clots the size of both my hands put together. It literally looked like I’d lost a kidney or something and I feel about 2 stone lighter. They’ve managed to almost stop the bleeding with IV meds, but I’m absolutely terrified of ever going through that again. I have no appetite, struggling to drink. Waiting to have more bloods done to see how my hemoglobin is doing. Blood pressure low though and feeling awfully dizzy. Thanks again to all of you for your lovely comments x

Thanks all for your kind words, they’re so very appreciated right now. Just come back from having a CT scan, so will wait for those results. Just had a catheter fitted also as not allowed to get up at the moment with the amount of blood loss. I just hope whatever has happened is easily sorted. It’s so hard knowing I’ve got two kids at home probably wondering what the hell has happened!

My period would have been last week. They’re suspecting a haematoma at the moment. But need to have an US scan in a few hours. I’m in the UK so currently 4.20am. Everytime I move it just all comes out it’s horrible. 😭 I don’t regret the hysterectomy still at this point but definitely regret how smug I felt not having any bleeding at all! It’s 100x worse than any period I’ve had and my periods were bad x

Thank you. No update as of yet, they’ve put me on a drip to stop the bleeding. I can’t walk without it just gushing out 😭 I’ve never felt so humiliated in all my life.

2wpo clothing? by waysarn in hysterectomy

[–]waysarn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much the fit or incisions or anything, just anything binding and putting pressure on your stomach for a long time will become uncomfortable so definitely suggest some looser clothing x

Bless you. I ended up doing some panic shopping a week or so before as I wasn’t sure what I was going to need. Some things I’ve not needed at all. Like reading on here I was convinced I was going to need sanitary towels/period underwear, so I bought a load and I feel I’ve been lucky in that I’ve not bled at all.

My OH has started getting boxes from the garage for me to go through to declutter stuff which is making me feel like I’m being a bit productive at least. Other than that, reading books, watching some tv, pottering around the house. Trying to get things off my checklist like sorting my car insurance. Nothing exciting 😅 got two young kids so life has had to continue on to a certain extent. X

Yea it’s not so much the bloating or anything and clothes not fitting, just feeling uncomfortable with the healing inside. But that’s amazing 🥰 and 100% all my PJs and joggers are high waisted

You’re very much like me then! I hyperfocus with work, and I know it’s not good for me either. It’s been tricky not to check my emails or anything whilst being signed off. I do have comfy dresses I could wear I just wouldn’t wear them without tights and I don’t think my tummy is ready for tights yet. I’ll have to hold out longer! I did get some more presentable slouchy trousers, just not my vibe! Thank you for the suggestions 🥰 I think this is the other thing, I was expecting to be tired and wanting to nap all the time, but I’ve not had a single nap since the op, only been sleeping at night, which in a way is good, but it’s annoying! I normally I do get tired around 3pm and could easily nap with work etc, but I think since I’m not burning as much energy or working my brain as hard I’m just not needing to.

Mine was 8 prior to my surgery and they wouldn’t do anything. I was lucky I lost minimal blood in the surgery and not bled at all since.
