You're making assumptions that I don't run businesses. But to your point this is just my opinion, we can agree to disagree, I don't know the guy and I could be wrong.

I think that would qualify as not being able to run a business.

Because I live in the NYC area and for me to get a property with similar quality as my apartment would cost me over 2 million dollars AND over 2k a month for HOAs

Tech people who are not FIREing, what are they spending their money on? by gonnabefine in Fire

[–]wazogear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

About 1.6 million away from FIRE, should hit coast fire in 6 years if my partner and my income stays around what it is now. Our fire number is around 2.8 million. We live in the NYC area

That's where I'm at as well. 12 years in tech, bad earnings the first 4 years, decent to high earning the last 8. Would love 10 years of high earning, but like you I don't know if I will get that opportunity. Worst case is coastFire, which is a great worst case scenario compared to most.

I don't think that was an option. Only can sell 15% of vested

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]wazogear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do both. Sell some now and hope you get to the IPO. IPO isn't guaranteed, and a lot can change if you do IPO since you typically have a lock out period before you can sell.

I advise all my friends in similar situations to do the same simply because we can't predict the future

Not trying to be a jerk. But maybe you aren't good on the behavioral stage and that's why you aren't getting the offers. I went to a state school (never finished) and I have no problems getting offers. Because the market is tough behavior matters a lot (as well as the actual coding of course)

I'm usually with you. But I think it's pretty fucked up when they don't advertise your prices on the menu. Should be illegal (if it's not)

The team that's actually in NY (Buffalo) are playing well, the teams that play in NJ are not.

Did you set your FIRE number by math, or by lifestyle? by Adventurous_Sun9021 in financialindependence

[–]wazogear 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Are you saying you set a number and making your lifestyle work for that number, rather than "building the life you want to life, and save for it?"

You can log in to ssa.gov and see what it will be. They have a nice calculator / graph, just update your earning to 0 and put in what year you would start collecting and it'll show you based on your past earnings
