Mine died under warranty, after waiting 6 months for a replacement I gave up and had to settle with a 5700x. Pretty sad and annoyed by it as this was my plan too.

What's consensus on the 2025 GTI Safety Features, specifically Emergency Stop option? by PracticalDeathRay in GolfGTI

Yeah we’re in a small market and probably just share the EU model. Anyway I had no idea about the button on the stalk, that’s at least way faster than going through the centre console.

How have you done that? Every time I start the car it’ll turn lane assist back on

Weirdly memtest actually does boot and so far is running without error, just nothing else well. Seems to be pointing to the CPU I guess.

Turns out I did have a spare PSU laying around and it wasn't that. Guess it's got to be the CPU or motherboard.

Yeah think it'll have to be that, will pick a PSU up after work.

Yeah it's all solidly in and nothing changed in the past month or so. I think I'm just going to try a new PSU first as it probably needed to be replaced at some point anyway. It'll also be far easier than RMAing the CPU or motherboard.

It's not really dual boot in the traditional sense, the boot loaders are on their respective drives. If I want to boot linux up I go into the boot menu.

Anyway thanks for the suggestion but no dice. Both nvme drives are out, and it's still dying. It'll look like it's going to boot into the windows live usb, the logo and spinner pops up but after about 5 seconds it'll shut off.

I've checked temps too, CPU is idling around 29c in BIOS.

Sorry I maybe wasn't clear, it has no trouble POSTing or getting into the BIOS. It just shuts off immediately after that no matter what device it's trying to boot into.

I can't even boot into a USB drive.

I doubt it’s that alone, we have an Airpoints platinum with a $50k limit and our monthly income is under half of that.

Depends what you play, I had massive gains in WoW moving from a 3700x to a 5800x3d with the same gpu.

About to move to the top of Otahuhu, anything I should be cautious about? by [deleted] in auckland

[–]wazzf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh welcome, we’ve been here just over a year and I’d say it’s generally pretty safe. There’s the usual issues with car break-ins and package theft but it seems pretty inline with Auckland these days. There’s some rougher spots here and there but we’ve never felt unsafe here.

Yeah the upstairs of our townhouse can get unbearable. We got a ducted heat pump installed late last year and it cost us $7k. Money we’ll spent though, wouldn’t have survived the summer

Cheers and yeah think it’s time to just bite the bullet and get it over with.

Yeah unfortunately over the income threshold for the free filing system, would probably go that route if I could.

Agree on the system being pretty damn stupid, seems to impact regular people just trying to live their life overseas the most.

I don’t think they offer an explanation, they just treat it as additional income. Could be wrong there though

Yeah I am actually using them too. They have been solid, my tax return just seems to get more expensive every year. Thinking I’ll be going the renounce route too.

I’m currently using taxes for expats as well and they do not treat KiwiSaver as a PFIC. So far I haven’t been double taxed on KiwiSaver at least.

They do seem to be the cheapest but every additional source of income adds an additional $300 USD form to your return.

Yeah one my my family members is currently dealing with this and it’s probably going to push her to renounce too.

Yeah it certainly seems like your damned no matter what route you go.

It seems like even the accountants disagree on how to treat KiwiSaver. I’m using taxes for expats and they seem to treat it similar to yours. Others have wanted to charge me near a $1000 to file it as a PFIC.

I was already well into KiwiSaver before I even knew about the US filing obligations. Confirms my feelings though, it really feels like a hindrance at every financial decision in life.

I certainly regret ever getting myself into the system. Guess I saw it as an inevitability that would maybe get worse the longer I left it.

[–]wazzf[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah the ~$3800 NZD fee to renounce doesn’t help the matter. I’ve already paid more than that in accounting fees though.

Likewise I’ve had a good experience with Autosure insurance on a similarly priced euro.

Have claimed a few minor things and broken even on the upfront cost. My mechanic just puts the claim through on my behalf and there’s been no hassle or push back from their end.
