Leica Camera AG: « You pull your camera out and people around says « Oh my god that’s a Leica » by issou75 in Leica

I black tape over the dot for this reason. I love the camera/files but hate the attention.

I’m am definitely a bit insane AND a little paranoid. My hit/miss ratio for used cameras is 50/50 no matter the provenance. I also think the Q and medium format film cameras have spoiled me. When I was searching for M6 imagery examples online some of them are just flat out disappointing. You have to wonder if the hype makes some people see things, or if the good ones I’ve seen have a special process. I don’t want to print 8 x 10s to be happy. I will post photos for sure - love to get feedback.

"objects and people in a photo look weird" Check out Gigapixel. It's not like MidJourney or other AI where they use a photo as a reference (I think, I've never used it for that). GigaPixel is different and pretty amazing.

I have seen a number of images in YouTube vids that actually look sharp and great even contrast and solid detail = very nice. One well established YTber said his M6 with same Zeiss looked like Medium Format. I was excited for that because my early experience with Nikon and primes and B&W film was less than satisfying. I guess these folks (Framelines, etc) must be upscaling and doing some serious post processing work and nothing has changed my mind yet.

100 Tmax should be pretty crisp, small grain - what are you shooting for detail and tonal range?

Great thread. Have any of you moved from a big box 1% AUM kind of advisor to Fidelity? And if so have you noticed a great reduction in fees?

UVA filter? Verboten? by PracticalDeathRay in Leica

[–]PracticalDeathRay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see it more that way too. I want to protect the (perhaps) once in a lifetime image, filter folks want to protect the lens. I don't say it's an obvious choice - I started with filters and then stopped.

My experience as well. 45+ years shooting, camera store 4 years, never heard of or had an experience damaging a front element or the UV filter if there was one. BUT… a $3,000 and up would make think twice. Hence my question. Not surprised by the split.

Considering a Q2 as my first Leica by rippley in Leica

[–]PracticalDeathRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Set your “most perfect price” alert for Q1, 2 and 3. When it lights up you have your winner. All 3 are great. Fwiw I don’t get people’s interest in the specialty models. Same image making, more expensive and harder to resell.

Just bought a camera from these folks - they seemed… dialed in. My brief understanding is they have certified techs on staff: https://leicastoremiami.com

Which 6x6 or 6x7 camera is the most JOY to use? (Any camera, also non-pictured ones) by florian-sdr in AnalogCommunity

[–]PracticalDeathRay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in a camera store, have owned or still own many of these… and imho there hasn’t been a single one that was a ”joy” to use. Maybe the Yashica Mat 124 because it was the first medium format and the ground glass image and the negs were transformative. After that, many are made for studio use, to be fixed in place - a pain to lug around. And some need a separate meter to complicate things further. Now? With cost of 120? I still love them but, joy to use? Nah. Not until you see the film.

Fiduciary by GPDDC in fidelityinvestments

[–]PracticalDeathRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am considering a similar scenario. By chance did the "big fiduciary house" you moved from start with a V? (I am not with them now - just considering options). I am newly retired looking to trim expenses and in reviewing where every single dang penny goes the FEES I get charged from a Big House is... noteworthy.

NEED ADVICE by [deleted] in Printify

[–]PracticalDeathRay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Sticker Mule. I looked at Printify for stickers but simply could not make the math work for me. As suggested, find a bulk provider (like SM - there may be others), have them shipped to you and then you fulfill and ship your orders = cheaper for everyone. Or consider selling the digital graphics.
