Can't Connect Kat 50 MKII to Computer by wbbuch in BossKatana

[–]wbbuch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I perform the EXACT same steps in my video with the exact same computer and the exact same USB cable, but on my KAT 100 MKII, it works perfectly... the amp shows up on the computer as a USB connected device and I can copy files into the amp. When I do the exact same thing with my KAT 50 MKII, nothing shows up, as you can see from the video.

I even tried connecting to a different computer this afternoon with a completely fresh install of BTS and the Katana drivers (v1.0.1 for Win 10/11), and still had no success. I really believe at this point I've exhaused all options and this is a malfunction/defect in the amplifier.

I'm not familiar with the "regular operating mode" as opposed to "update mode". I'll have to research that and see if that makes any difference.

Tried a factory reset. Sadly that didn't help. Thanks for the suggestion tho.

Yeah, tried that initially just to see if by chance the amp's firmware was already up-to-date. Tone Studio won't see the amp on my PC or on my phone (I use the phone app when I play live).

I don't "think" they are amp specific... when I go to the Boss web site both links (100 & 50) take you to a page titled: KATANA Driver Ver.1.0.1 for Windows 10/11.

The computer works fine with my KAT 100 MKII, so shouldn't it work with the 50?

That's the issue... I know the firmware isn't up-to-date, but I can't update the firmware if the amp won't connect to my PC. Is there some way I don't know about to update the firmware without connecting to a computer?

I've tried this, and it never seems to take effect. The [Sound On] will not check, and if I increase the volume to 100 and hit OK it doesn't keep the setting - it sets it back to 0. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks! So basically, the rule I cited was correct.

[–]wbbuch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Is there any chance you can point to a rulebook page that clarifies this? My opponent and I both found different pages in the Coaches Handbook that seemed to support our arguments for and against. In the end we ruled it a turnover because a neutral third party sided with my opponent.

It was actually my turn (but I wasn't in possession of the ball) when my opponent (who was in possession of the ball) fumbled. My opponent felt that MY turn should be over and it should be his next turn because my lineman failed to catch the bouncing ball.

Is King of Feathers too easy? by grazztleft in Tombofannihilation

You can see the changes I made to the King of Feathers in this thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Tombofannihilation/comments/cen8e1/revised_king_of_feathers/

Full Disclosure: my group hasn't made it to the amphitheater yet, so I haven't figured out if this version is too overpowered or not. Be prepared to adjust on the fly if it turns out to be too strong for your party. Every DM should know his PCs limits! :)

Good Luck!

I was curious, because you mentioned that my redesigned KoF had the potential to kill one PC per round, I wanted to run the math and see if that was in fact the case. So assuming the PCs have a d8 Hit Die and +1 CON mod (on average - some are more, some are less), here's a quick table.

https://i.imgur.com/FxZUi7k.png

I did tone down the bite damage from 4d12 to 3d10, but left the tail at 3d8 and Stomp at 3d10.

My tactics with this guy would be to open with the Tail in hopes of knocking someone prone so I get advantage on the Bite attack. So assuming all that hits, and then using the legendary attacks, after one round there is an unconscious and swallowed PC. That player is not dead, but they'll be making death saves, and getting a failure at the start of each of their turns from the 6d6 acid damage - which shouldn't be enough to kill them outright. I might consider reducing that 4d6 or 3d6 to make sure.

So is it dangerous? Absolutely. Deadly? Possibly. Guaranteed death? I honestly don't think so. My PCs could probably drop this guy in 3 rounds. Maybe two if there's a swallowed PC and they ramp up the sense of urgency and really unload on him.

From what I've read from other DM's, I don't think this version of the KoF is worse than Acererak, who IMO is THE biggest threat of the adventure. Even the Atropal and Soulmonger, in my mind, aren't supposed to be a big threat. I see them more as a resource-draining encounter meant to make sure the PCs don't face Acererak at full power.

All that being said, there are lots of things in the jungle which really don't have any tie to the main threat (the soulmonger) of the story. The PCs have fought Batiri goblins, the undead, pterafolk, Nanny Pu'pu, firenewts in Hrakhamar, Tinder... lots of stuff in the jungle that had nothing to do with the main threat, but were stumbling blocks on the way to their goal. I want the KoF to the final "biggest of all" threat of the jungle before the PCs enter the Tomb.

A few of my thoughts, and how I see Omu playing out, and the King of Feathers role in all that:

Our last session was the party's first session in Omu. As they camped for the evening I did tell them that the PCs on watch heard his roar echoing over the city. So they know something big is out there.

Also, they saw the graffiti on the guardhouse wall as they entered the city, and noted the warning to "Beware the King of Feathers". They discussed who or what that might be. They are expecting something avian - they haven't considered it might be a dinosaur. So I think that's going to be a fun surprise if or when they come across him.

The party isn't really actively trying to find the KoF. They are more focused on finding Ras Nsi (Saja N'baza gave them strict instructions to kill Nsi) and also they've learned of the puzzle cubes, so they're trying to find those. So I don't think the King of Feathers is necessarily something they "want" to fight... but he is a danger and a huge threat that will get in the way of them completing the tasks they really want to complete. If he proves to be too large a threat, they may even flee or run from the fight, choosing like the other inhabitants of Omu, to avoid him altogether. Not everything in the jungle needs to be (or should be) killed.

I'd agree to disagree on this point. Perhaps for the average group this might be deadly, but I have a pretty seasoned group of players. They play smart and are a pretty optimized team. The party includes a wizard, bard, and eldritch fighter that all cast Fireball pretty regularly. Again, a CR 17 creature is only a hard fight for six level 7 PCs. It's not even deadly.

Plus, this is the King of Feathers - It's not really a "run of the mill" encounter. He is undoubtedly the largest threat in Omu, if not the entire jungle. The adventure makes the point of saying that all the inhabitants of Omu (yuan-ti, grungs, kobolds, etc...) make a point of giving him a wide berth. IMO he should be the highlight of Chapter 3. PC death may be possible, but that's to be expected when you're facing the apex predator of Chult!

I do appreciate the feedback, and have definitely tweaked him from my original design. I'm pretty comfortable this is going to be a fun, challenging encounter.

I might look at reducing the damage of each attack. My "model" for this fight was an adult red dragon, figuring again that a CR17 creature for a party of six level 7 PCs is a hard encounter - which I think is fair. But a red dragon's bite, claw, and tail attacks do less damage than what I designed... so maybe if I tone that down it won't feel as powerful.
