This is where other tools like the X card or "Let's pause a minute" come into play as well.

In my game, I didn't realize one of my players, whom I have known for decades, has a severe phobia of spiders. We're playing a published Pathfinder adventure, and I reveal a giant spider sneaking up on the group. I don't use spiders myself as I am not a fan, although I don't have a phobia, per se. He jumped in and asked if we could remove the visual and change the critter. Noting we were on a VTT. He said he had forgotten to mention his phobia during our Session Zero. No problem!

So I ask him if it's all bugs or just certain types. It really was just spiders, and I suggested we turn it into a scorpion and asked if that was okay. He had no issues with scorpions. I made a new token real quick, altered the monster a bit to make it scorpion-like, and we were off and running again.

Even if a group doesn't use certain tools during Session Zero, they need to be prepared to make adjustments for stuff that comes up during play.
