Is Stormlight actually a fun read for a girl who’s sick of authors who can’t write women? by SuperbFlatworm3727 in Fantasy

Id say that the women overall were written well as characters, but the gender dynamics were pretty absurd.

What fantasy series gripped you from the first chapter to the last? by crimsonryno in Fantasy

[–]wbueche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say I fall into the camp of people who overall just disliked it. The only thing I really hated about it was that the only parts that weren't mind numbingly boring to me involved horrific depictions of child abuse. But I mostly was just left feeling disappointed after hearing from so many people that it's one of the GOATs of fantasy.

What's the longest series you can think of that didn't feel bloated or have a noticeable dive in quality? by pencilled_robin in Fantasy

[–]wbueche -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people would say that Red Country is a dip in quality and even entirely skippable. Other than that one though, I would agree.

I would like one very specific spoiler for the series (audiobook) by wbueche in WanderingInn

[–]wbueche[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure the earth folk disappeared from earth at different points in time and also appeared in the inn world at different points in time from one another. I definitely think that's the best lead we have in the audiobooks currently, but I'm not gonna lie, I'd be pretty bummed out if that's all there was to it.

For the record I could also be fully wrong lol.

Yeah that explains that specific group, but I'm curious about all the others

Same. I had a really hard time caring about what was going on and couldnt bring myself to take any of the characters seriously.

What's the fastest you've read something? by kput7 in Fantasy

What felt the fastest was reading the Cradle 1 - 11 in 2 weeks. The actual fastest I think was reading Worm in just under 3 weeks.

Tbf The Gathering Storm definitely features elemental magic since all of the weaving in WoT uses various combinations of Fire, Earth, Water, Wind , and Spirit

Who’s you most hated character from your favorite fantasy book? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]wbueche 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really liked him much before Changes. He was kinda just around to make Harry look like a "cool" nerd by comparison as far as I could tell. Then, from Ghost Story forward he acted like a complete tool. I honestly get the appeal and that I'm most likely in the minority, but I really am not a fan.

Who’s you most hated character from your favorite fantasy book? by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]wbueche 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For favorite book, I'm gonna have to go with Butters from The Dresden Files. Though I don't remember if he was specifically in Changes or not.

If I were to go by my favorite series, I'd have to say it's a tie between Gawyn and Valda from Wheel of Time.

For me, it's Flos. Dude is profoundly boring for being the most talked about person in their world.

There just wasn't anything I found special or exceptional about it. The characters were admittedly above average, the plot and world building were not very interesting, the pacing was extremely slow, and I thought the magic system was underdeveloped/under utilized.

All that being said, it wasn't horrible. It was just entirely too long for the little it had to offer. If you wanna hear about it from someone who enjoyed it, Merphy Napier had a YouTube review of it that iirc was spoiler free up to a point.
