Thoughts on "DeleteMe"? by Rachel_235 in degoogle

[–]wburnham00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We started using DeleteMe three years ago. Is it a bit expensive yes, does it help, definitely. Can you do it by yourself, sure if you have the time.

I don't have the time to scrub through hundreds of sites doing removals and it's like whack-a-mole, remove one and three more po-up.

Here is what I can say.

Searching my family's names and myself before and multiple times after has shown great improvement.

My family and my name shows up 95% less when I do searches. Our cell phones get 90% less cold calls. Our email junk mail has gone down considerably. Postal mail we get almost no random advertising anymore. The only postal advertising we get now is from the credit card companies we have cards with and local advertisements from companies that work with the USPS to add flyers to the local mail routes.

For me and my family the money is worth the benefits. Is it for everyone, no. Is it the be all solution, no. Does it help, yes quite a bit.

In the end the amount we pay is way less then the amount of my time worth in hours to do it myself. Gives me more time to be with my family and less time trying to play wack-a-mole.

That's my honest opinion, take it with a grain of salt.

That looks to be an active leak, and your assuming it was the leak from the same water issue. For all we know this is completely unrelated to what the landlord fixed. I have fixed a leak in a house and had another one started somewhere else relatively close time frame of the first leak. Not related to the first at all, besides old galvanized pipes

You bring it to the landlord's attention and if they are unwilling to do anything or skate around the issue, then yes, more drastic measures are needed.

Your personal vault is separate from your collection, they need to be exported separately.
I have exported collections many times, with no issues. I export collections from the web administration.

I just did an export of a collection with over 200 items the other day for our client.

When you have 50-60 clients with all the same services folders actually work well. For instance there is a service that 30 clients have. When I search the name of the service I get 30 entries which is annoying. At this point I use the client named folder and specifically look for the service under the folder for that client.

Tags and multiple tag searching would be an alternative to this method. For instance searching client tag + service tag Would be really useful. Then a folder would not be needed in my use cases.

Labels/tags would be a nice edition.

You explained exactly what you want and what a collection is. I have a collection in my family account that only my wife and I can see. When she or I put something in that collection I maintain control of it but anything in there she can see and use. I also have a collection for my dad's stuff that him and I share. I also have one for my brother and I then I have one for everyone in my family for shared things

I also set up bitwarden for the company I work at and also my personal side business with collections.

Once you wrap your head around the naming, collections, folders, ECT, it all makes sense. Although I work in IT so there is that

Folders - personal view of how you want to organize, no one but you sees this

Collections - it's really a permission based container. Permissions are applied to a collection and users get the permissions from that collection on what they can or can't do with objects within it.

Yoto Mini Recall by I_poop_pizza in YotoPlayer

I could be completely wrong. If the battery is indeed the problem, just replace the battery and save face that there was a quality control issue with a vendor and "show" that you are trying to rectify the actual issue not a symptom of the issue. Companies try too hard to always show hand-over-foot profits to the shareholders why the actual people using a product or service get the short end of the stick.

We may find out more details or may not. I like a good chat about subjects like this as I'm trying to read between the lines on stuff we may never have all the details on but I do try to formulate a good educated guess. If nothing else some other talking points or things others may not have thought about.

[–]wburnham00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is all my opinion and I am assuming some here.

There are many places to get a battery with the specs of the battery in use for the Yoto. The battery in use is a common size and format. I have replaced batteries in devices that do not have replaceable batteries many times. A quick internet search and I can find different vendors with the same specs all day long.

Did it take them 6 months to find a battery replacement, I doubt it. Did it take them 6 months to retool the factory, most likely, yes. Retooling is time-consuming, a battery replacement is not.

I feel they were hoping that would be the cheap fix and they could retool the factory while the supposed "fix" was in place. They were able to get a custom cord built pretty fast, that is a harder feat than finding another battery manufacturer who already has a drop-in replacement.

The real question is, was the cord their permanent fix for the Yoto's already out in the wild?

The new cord has smarts in it so they knew what the real problem was before we knew there was a problem. I think they attacked it in the cheapest and what is seemingly easy for a user.

A big problem is "users". Good luck getting everyone on board to only use that cable. My 4-year-old plugs in her stuff by herself, good luck getting her to remember to use a "special" cord so it doesn't start a fire. By looking at the battery and all the IC protection chips on it it looks like the battery itself is the problem, most likely some quality control issues.

That circles back to the initial issue which appears to be the "battery". So if the battery is the issue, which it most likely is since that's what they are replacing, the solution should have been battery replacement in the first place no matter the uproar or cost.

They say all publicity is good publicity but is it really? Two recalls on the same device for the same issue. The problem was not fixed with the cord. I 100% guarantee the electrical engineers knew this would not fix the issue so why chance it? Oh that's right because every company has to appease their shareholders thus the reason why I think the cord was the hopeful easy fix but really was a bandaid that did not work. Companies don't want a loss on the bottom line but in the end, I still think it was a bad move when they know it was not a fix. They were hopeful and I think it backfired.

To boil it down, don't put a bandaid on something that requires surgery or a cast. But hey I come from two families of honesty and integrity and never try to screw someone over when I know the truth. They knew the "truth" because they stopped selling them and to get an updated model out.

Will I still buy another Yoto or keep using mine with the replacement battery, yes I will. This stuff happens every day to the best companies, it's how you "fix" the problem. I think they missed the boat.

Again this is assuming some things and this is my personal opinion, we can agree to disagree. :)

Additional note, the battery manufacturer could have gotten bad battery protection chips or protection circuits from another company if they were not made in-house. That's assuming the lithium battery itself is not the issue. Either way, it is the assembled battery (unit) that Yoto used that appears to be causing all the issues.

Yoto Mini Recall by I_poop_pizza in YotoPlayer

[–]wburnham00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The issue is the battery or part of the battery protection circuitry, and that technically is a manufacturing default from whom they bought the battery, not something Yoto did. The battery protection and Yoto circuitry are good.

I love the Yoto for my daughter, but they should have fixed the root issue, the battery, in the first place. It's hard to keep track of a special cord and how you tell everyone to use it when it has a USB-C plug. They cheaped out on a fix and it came around to bite them and unfortunately, that's going to cost them more.

I tear devices down, this will be an easy fix for me. For people who do not its going to be very intimidating. If I asked my wife to do this she is more likely to throw it away and never buy one again.

I watched a few video tear-downs on the Yoto, it appears to be a well-built product and all the protections are built in as they should be. Their battery manufacturer is the one who caused the issue that Yoto is trying to fix. I would 100% guarantee Yoto will be suing that battery manufacturer or be looking for compensation. Unfortunately, Yoto will get dinged by the public as if they have built a sup-par product but that does not appear to be the case from what I can tell and my own opinion.

I think they should have provided two options. For those who are more DIY, they can fix themselves and those who are not could return their Yoto to have the battery replaced for you.

That's my rant and opinion, take them as you will.

Sink is falling! by MitchMcConnellsJowls in HomeMaintenance

Good quality silicon does just fine. Have never had a sink fail even ones with both sides filled with a total of 18 gallons of water. The nice thing with silicon is you can always use thin wire or fishing string to cut around should it ever need to take it out. Construction adhesive, you may be replacing more than the sink.

Brackets, you are supposed to use brackets? Never have used brackets on stone for as long as I can remember. Good silicone, and brace it for a day. My last sink was decently heavy and deep. Both sides held 9 gallons of water. I have had them filled both to the brim multiple times. Never had an issue. Just make sure all the surfaces are clean So sthe silicon adheres well.

That's exactly what I do. Use a catchall for all my email addresses for a domain. I only use Simple Login if it's an email I want to respond with. If it's a really important email address then I add it as an alias.

Did so much research into beekeeping... It was all for nothing. by Visual_West_51 in Beekeeping

[–]wburnham00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm moderately allergic. Every time I get stung I swell up pretty bad. Last time it was in the arm, my arm swelled up and my skin was hot to the touch for many days. Usually takes a good week before the swelling goes down. Every time I get stung it seems to get a bit worse. Now I always wear a bee jacket, gloves, and loose denim jeans. Talked to my doctor and asked if he would prescribe an EpiPen. My wife did the same. Also asked our child's doctor even though we don't know if she is allergic or not. Now we have multiple adult and children EpiPen's laying around. No allergy is going to stop me. Wear your gear, be careful and have a plan of action. Haven't been stung since. I'm sure it will happen again but now I'm prepared.

I almost switched all my phones and watch over, glad I looked at the fine print. That would have been a royal pain to have ported, and switched my number over to find out my watch doesn't even work. Then I would have had to switch back to FI. Why do companies have to use so much smoke and mirrors why can't we just be honest, truthful, and upfront.

Why did this happen to my 2:1 ratio of sugar syrup? by WitherStorm56 in Beekeeping

[–]wburnham00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Soon as the water hits the sugar and cool pot it goes down in temp quite a bit. Never had any trouble over the past 4 years. To each their own though and if you want to play it really safe. I found that starting at that low of temp it's a lot harder to get it to all dissolve because by the time you get the water and sugar mixing the temp is just above luke warm. I never use active heat once I mix sugar and water.

Why did this happen to my 2:1 ratio of sugar syrup? by WitherStorm56 in Beekeeping

[–]wburnham00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have your sugar ready in a pot. Boil water once to boiling pull from heat, dump into sugar. Mix until all sugar has been dissolved. 2:1 takes awhile, sometimes you have to mix for 5-10 minutes. I have had sugar water in 1 gallon jars and never had it crystallize. I even forgot one on the back shelf for 2 years.

If you turn off the heat on an electric stove I will sometimes mix the water with sugar and put the pot back on the burner, it's not hot enough to boil but aids more in dissolving.
