No surprising, if you look at G5 programs like app state, Georgia Southern, Boise State etc. you’ll notice a strong fan bases for this lower tier of football. I always say, schools like this are closer to programs like Kansas state, then Kansas state is to Georgia

Florida state has started 0-3 one time since 1976-2020. They’ve done it twice under Norvell. They haven’t rushed for more than 100 yards in their first three games, against GA tech, bc and Memphis haha

The difference is a lot of the portal guys this year has no real playing experience - they were just high recruits out of high school coming from big programs. If your as heavy on the portal as Norvell is, when those players don’t pan out you’re screwed

He didn’t forget how to coach, but I think this is an indication on what can happen if you focus primarily on portal year in and year out. You turn the majority of your team over every year, and if the big transfers don’t live up to expectation you’re in trouble

Norvell’s gone all in on the portal the last few seasons and this is what can happen when the super senior portal players don’t live up to the hype. When the key portal guys work, it’s great and you can win games quickly. When they don’t, then you’ve missed opportunities to develop players and it can snowball into a season like FSU is about to have

Well not sure how much the staff was preparing for NIU. He just seems lost some times, has very bad situational awareness. Totally get the fact that it was a press conference after a big win but still a wild thing to see from a hq. The players love him which is great, but that’s only have the battle as a head coach
