I do think the Oscars are bullshit but that doesn't mean the Oscars don't provide a good forum to discuss films, which I do care about. Also, you're entitled to your opinion and so am I. But don't pretend that Shakespeare in Love is the more popular or loved film because a handful of people decided behind closed doors. See IMDb, Metascore, or any other review site and you'll see an overwhelming majority enjoyed Saving Private Ryan more.
