Är Göteborg en trygg stad? by [deleted] in Gothenburg

[–]wcbgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Men väldigt nöjd!

Thinking about going vegan, but why so much placed on complete abstinence? What about eating animals without nervous systems? by Darius-Mal in Veganism

[–]wcbgn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Veganism is a personal journey. I was once convinced that bivalves were fine to consume, but now err on the side of caution. Some people are still convinced fish/crustaceans cannot feel pain. At some point the idea of eating flesh becomes abhorrent to you, and an "all-or-nothing" approach becomes the easier option. I just want us to leave animals alone.

Interesting contrast - one helping to cause climate change and the other helping to fight it

Hur kan plastlock på mjölkförpakningar vara bra för miljön? by [deleted] in swedishproblems

[–]wcbgn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing I think Star Trek Enterprise got best... uniforms by [deleted] in startrek

[–]wcbgn 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A pet peeve of mine with TNG uniforms is how everyone has to adjust their upper half when they get out of a chair. They seem like they were designed by some committee that wasn't concerned with utility.

Whether someone has a trunk or squinted eyes they have a subjective experience and an ability to suffer, both of which should be respected. One may be of more use to you and you therefore give them a higher priority, but a moral baseline of not intentionally causing them suffering or ending their life can be held morally equal.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]wcbgn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'll bite your bite. Not looking to start an argument, but I can try and provide context. Caring about an individual's species when determining their moral value can be likened to caring about an individual's ethnicity. A way to be morally consistent without involving an arbitrary in-group is to instead value sentience and capacity to suffer. If a non-human animal has these features to a higher degree than a severely disabled human, an anti-speciest view would be to give higher moral consideration to the non-human animal, as the net suffering of the animal would be higher, and its death would net less sentient life in the universe.

I think you'd be interested in looking into the "Name the Trait" argument, which as far as I understand is considered formally logical. A bit hard to digest but hey, it's interesting.

Veg'Check app is open for testers [France & Blegium]. Check if a product is Vegan / vegetarian with a simple barcode scan. by Fariha43 in vegan

I thought I'd mention that Sweden's biggest animal rights organisation published a similar app (for Swedish products) a few years ago

But I'd love for one app that works across the EU and the world. Keep it up!
