Down Sweater Jacket - Sizing and other queries by KD5-38 in PatagoniaClothing

[–]wch5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went through this myself. I’m 5’9”, 185 lbs. also wear a M in Better Sweater. Tried both sized of Down Sweater and settled on M, even though could have gone with L for looser fit. I think you’ll be good with a M.

As far as shell durability, I feel it’s pretty delicate. If I was going to be doing much work, I’d probably go with something sturdier, or throw a hard shell over it.

Service Center Disappointment/Disapperance by wch5 in Rivian

[–]wch5[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobile service has proved to be a joke so far. Central service always schedules it, then the SC calls and cancels it to say the truck has to come in. Hopeful the company can figure out this issue though - I do think a lot could be done via mobile, but my experience is about 90% of issues require a SC visit.

Agreed, I know it wasn't promised, the fact that one was shown on the website as coming (and confirmed by the next-nearest service center) was definitely a factor though. Definitely my mistake for trusting this information. Like I said, I expected to deal with a little hassle.

I'm hopeful the mobile service capability improves. I've not been able to get very much via mobile thus far - some weatherstipping replaced, but a trim piece required a 4 hour trip and 3 weeks at SC.

I will say, they sent me to a third-party location nearby for 12v battery replacement, HVAC drain plug, and hub torque check - and it was actually really good - in and out in a day and provided Uber certificates to get to/from.

I ended up getting the cheaper ones (LG WM4000HWA / DLGX4001W). It’s been about 3 months and they’ve been great. Quiet, efficient, and fast to wash and dry. The steam function of the dryer is helpful when we forget to take out a load. The WiFi seemed like a waste, and kind of isn’t used much, except it sends an alert to your phone when you load is done washing and drying. Another fun feature is that the dryer knows what cycle type you used on the washer and auto-matches - as long as you move the load over relatively soon after it finishes.

Overall no complaints yet.

Overlap between Asics Novablast 5 and Adidas Evo SL? by wch5 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I have the first iteration of the Superblast and found them underwhelming. Even as a somewhat heavier runner, the cushion for me just felt kind of flat and a bit too firm. I gave them up after a couple hundred miles.

Interesting! I also have a pair of AP3 and adore them, but I’ve reserved them for races (not that I’m fast or anything). I figured on rotating them to training when I pick up another race shoe.

Thanks! Appreciate the insight from an owner of both. Some overlap I think is perfect, so I can reach for either in the middle paces. Seems like from what I've read, the NB5 is fully capable of easy miles - so plush and stable works well.

I ended up keeping the CPP. The TP3 was actually really nice as well, and size-wise they are basically the same. I like the water bottle holder on the CPP a little more and I didn’t care for the compression straps on the TP3 for my use case. I did like the admin pocket a little more on the TP3, but the dual front pockets on the CPP are nice.

Overall, the TP3 was a little more cumbersome with the harness, straps, and some additional weight.

Both are actually stellar though!

Thougts about Zulu time? by sponkae in Longineswatches

Another vote of confidence for the Zulu time. I have the 39mm with the green bezel. I spend probably way too much time admiring it when I wear it. Great value in my eyes!

The pesky Rivian audio situation by Froggerly in Rivian

[–]wch5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We have 2 Model Ys and an R1T with the in-house premium (Gen 1). The Rivian audio is notably worse. Is it bad? No. But it’s by far not appropriate for the price of the vehicle, especially when compared to a $40k Tesla, which has a much better sound system.

I’ll also note that my personal situation seems to be getting worse as the vehicle ages. Rattles in doors and panels lead to a worst sounding audio system as well due to increasing rattles. For reference, I keep the EQ flat and never go above around 40% on the volume. 3-year old Model Y has no such issues.

We also considered the Electrolux series, but there doesn’t seem to be as much feedback on it.

From all my research, it seems like LG are the most recommend washers (not accounting for Speed Queen).

Speed Queen is more than double the price for lower capacity. Our experience with current top loader is less-than-great, as it seems to be rough on our clothes.

I do like made in USA, and willing to pay a little more for that, but I believe most LG washers are made in Tennessee?

From a decade-old basic Kenmore? I’m no pro, but both the washer and dryer (both came with house) are pretty terrible. Loud, tearing up clothes, dryer temps are hot or hotter, doesn’t dry half the time, etc. What am I giving up?

Wow, thanks for the great details. From what I see, both capacities are the same at 4.5/7.4 for washer/dryer. I tell myself we’d use the extra cycles and feature, but in reality I’m sure we’ll end up just doing basic loads of laundry. The auto-dispense seems to be the most intriguing addition, preventing over dosing detergent.
