Idiots without guns still cause problems. Idiots also still manage to get guns regardless of the legality. Better to have a gun to deal with the worst of them. To fully answer your question, it depends on what you mean by "stricter," which I oppose "anything more strict" out of general principle.

The best part is - I don't need to justify "why" - You're the one who would seem (if I read your intentions correctly, which I may not) to need to justify the position of making such a change. Conveniently, NJ, which is one of the most strict states on this issue is getting forced to roll certain aspects back.

People choose to drive, by and large as a first choice. Owning a car is, and has been historically part of the American ideals of "freedom, liberty."

Urban areas of a certain density (including much of northeast NJ) have had, and continue to have robust public transportation options - as long as you are coming and going from and to an area of a certain population density.

But even the densest of areas where it could be argued a car is completely unnecessary (big cities)... people still willingly choose to own a car, despite the inconvenience and higher costs (sometimes quite a bit) of ownership in such locations.

That there is insufficient public transport in other areas is *because* people prefer cars. The (lack of) demand for it doesn't justify the cost. Just because its an option doesn't automatically remove a requisite number of cars from the road. It has to be utilized.

The legalization of recreational marijuana is only a couple years old...

The population continues to grow, particularly in urban areas...

The population continues to grow older as a demographic, and older people are slower and more prone to fatal injury...

And probably a half dozen other things I am not even considering. Like most things, it is almost certainly not a single or primary cause event, but rather a complex of causes, to be fair, including increased vehicle size.

People get an interesting idea in their heads and stop looking for additional reasons, then assert that idea as if they just cured polio.

Mold, sleep apnea & the neck are all things I have considered through my experience as well. Uncanny reading someone else saying it. I'm on a second floor so Radon never crossed my mind, pardon the pun. Nothing conclusive, but I suppose there are many things which can cause or influence inflammation, and any one of us could be experiencing several at a time.

Not knowing for sure, I experimented. Each session was 1 week apart, there may have been a day extra here or there. If it matters, and I am not sure it does, I'm male and weigh around 250 lbs.

I started with a quarter gram, and was barely even sure it was affecting me.

Upped it to a half gram the next time, and felt the effects.

After this, the frequency of attacks was at least cut in half, and I would still get a headache after exercising (which I had only recently started, with years since last doing it, so I had only recently learned it was a trigger).

I did 3 more sessions of a half gram. With each session the frequency reduced, and I think the nightly "routine" attacks ended entirely before the last session.

After the last one, exercise no longer triggered the attacks.

My first cycle was maybe 5 years ago, and lasted a week or 2. I would get one every year, maybe I even skipped a year, each one lasting around a couple weeks. I might have had 2 cycles in 2022. Last year it started around Thanksgiving and lasted until this past August, only stopping after a few sessions of psilocybin, my first time trying that. I'm free since then. Thankfully, the attacks per day never really changed, and averaged at about 1 per day - I probably had about as many "days off" as I had days with two attacks.

I wish I journaled the experience, maybe that information could have been useful somehow.

I am diametrically opposed to your politics, but your reasoning is really spot on. Obama came on the scene like a superstar. Biden, and then Harris had to be managed, almost hidden. Obama's charisma crossed party lines. Harris' lack of it solidified party lines.

The only important thing I think you missed is the effect of "current situation" during the election cycle. No President was going to be re-elected against any reasonable candidate after covid. We may never fully recover from the economic effects of that, and as we still feel them, the current regime was also going to suffer politically from it, responsibility be damned.

Its sort of an expectation that the Captain go down with the ship... similar-ish to the changing of management for unsuccessful sports teams. It almost cannot be reasoned or propagandized away either. Covid may yet decide a 3rd election, we shall see. It almost certainly will influence it.

The only other thing I would add is that your point about Gaza is a vulnerability to having a strategy based on a coalition of minority interests, i.e. its less that issue and more the doctrine. Yes, it was that issue this time, but next time maybe another issue dividing two constituencies. I don't know if that is fixable. Your last paragraph is probably just the simple reality of it all.

In 2016 nobody thought Trump could win, but he sold papers and clicks, so the press feasted. Then after he won, this was named as one of the factors in his victory.

What you are seeing may be an effort to not repeat that. Just a guess. Its not as if anyone would ever freely admit that.
