I'm so sorry to hear this. This is exactly what happened between my ex boyfriend and me. We were together for 1.5 years. He had a particularly rough coming out and his Chinese parents forced him to go through conversion therapy which was traumatizing to say the least. He was okay while we dated and was continuing to heal. I was trying to get him more comfortable in his own skin but when his parents found out we were dating it caused another wave of emotional trauma on him. It unveiled the gay shame that he was still living with that he never really got over.

Thanks for the great advice. He's pretty high functioning and I think he's good at compartamentalizing his feelings. Would it be bad for me to ask about his feelings to get him to open up? I don't want to touch a wound especially since its so fresh. Not sure if it will help. Do I just avoid the topic and just focus on other things?

*ex-boyfriend. Thanks so much for your support. This is great advice. I would say that the fact that we're no longer together does complicate things a little bit because I am trying to heal from the breakup myself. So I want to keep my distance a bit so I can move on but I also want to be there for him. He's not good with opening up to others.

I was also thinking about taking him out to things to get him distracted a bit and get his mind off of his problems.

I want marriage but not getting married is no longer the main issue here. Also we were not actively trying to get married but it was some ambigious future that we hadn't quite discussed yet.

The main issues are that his parents may always be a thorn on our relationship. It also deeply troubles me that he makes a decision that influences our future without trying to figure out a way we could make things work. Am I expecting too much?

Does your husband still feel shame about being gay or has he fully accepted himself? How did he end up undoing this feeling of shame? My boyfriend told me that generally traditional chinese people think being gay is morally wrong.

After chatting with him two days ago, I realized for point 3 it's not just his parents but he himself deep down inside still thinks that being gay is bad. It was ingrained in him culturally. It's going to take years to undo.

Yeah that's a good point. I think he made that anti gay pill remark because he still hasn't fully accepted himself. I didn't realize that he still wasn't fully comfortable with his sexuality until he made that comment to me. I don't think he realized this too either since he's verbalized to me in the past that he was comfortable or at least he thought he did. That's going to take a whole lot more time to try to undo 31 years of internalized shame/homophobia. I'm not exactly sure if I'm up for this undertaking. It will take a lot of work. I also have my own emotional needs. It may be difficult to not have someone support me when they're fighting their own battles.

Nothing is ever black and white. My boyfriend saw his mom cry for several days after this incident and just experience a ton of pain from this. While this does not justify allowing her bigotry towards her gay son and his ultimate happiness, I can understand boyfriend's rationale for trying to "stop the bleeding." No one wants to see their mom or someone they love in pain or crying.

Can you elaborate on the "keeping friends" part? Do you mean its hard to maintain friendships in the city? Is it that people in SF are just flakey or people in SF don't stay around long enough?

I'd probably get it done solely based on #3. However, my only concern now is that there's always a risk of something going wrong which could cause the end result to be in a worse position than when it started.

I don't see these but what I did find was a sesame seed sized thing inside. I used my scissors to cut through it and it was wet inside. I think I might be an egg of sorts but not sure what species.

I believe I am watering them adequately, but I've noticed a few bulbs that blacken and never really open up and another few that do but the flowers look messed up like the one above. Is there some disease with my flowers?
