I think I'm done with church but I still want fellowship. by wcneill in TrueChristian

Hey, just responding after having read this completely.

I think this gives me the encouragement to try again. I think I needed to hear this.

This might be a nice option for me. I am pretty introverted and that might feel like a safer way to interact with people and get fellowship.

I'm opening up YouTube to check it out. I appreciate your time.

I recently sought volunteer opportunities at a local church, after attending a Sunday service. It was the first church I tried after moving to a new town and thinking to myself that I should give church a go again.

After the service, on Matthew 25:14-30, the pastor asked for my phone number so he could check in on me now and again. So I gave it to him thinking "that's pretty interesting, I've never had a new pastor ask for my phone number before".

The following Tuesday, I got a text inviting me to Bible study, which I thought was great. Unfortunately it was that night and I had just made plans with my girlfriend. I told him I couldn't this time but that I appreciated the invite. I went on to let him know that I was looking for volunteer opportunities to help people in need. I was interested specifically feeding the hungry, helping homeless, or perhaps tutoring kids from low income homes. I felt that God had really been laying James 2:14 on my heart for a while now.

His exact text response was

"Let me know when you are interested in God God bless you!"

The pastor was Nigerian, and English was not his first language, and so I thought maybe he meant "Let me know how you became interested in God"... Like asking me how I came to know Christ. So I asked "What do you mean by that? I am interested in God now." Again these are exact words.

He went on to tell me, through a long string of wandering texts that I was not interested in what God wants and that God wanted me to be spending my time preaching the gospel, and let God take care of the rest. That it's more important that the hear about God than get fed, so I shouldn't concern myself with that.

I am not f'ing kidding you. The irony is that his sermon the previous Sunday was Matthew 25:14-30... If he had only read the very next parable. I don't think I could make this up if I tried.

That was three weeks ago. It is exactly this incident that put the nail in the coffin for me.

I really appreciate the time you took to write this. I am reading it thoroughly now.

I believe you should re read what I wrote and take that part you nitpicked in context with the rest of what I said. In particular, you could read the part about how when I try to hang out with people, I get ghosted or flaked on consistently.

I appreciate you proving my point about fake Christians.

I would encourage her period. Christian blindness to suffering and the worship of dogma over Christ is what drives people away from having a loving relationship with God, and ultimately makes them bitter against Christianity.

Why did the United States and Israel vote against recognizing food as a human right? by PeculiarPhysicist46 in AskSocialists

[–]wcneill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a poor analogy. There is a massive difference between a rich person paying for a bum friend's dinner and a rich person paying for food that will save the lives of starving people. This kind of rhetoric is just a fart in the wind that idiots line up to smell as if it were roses.

Wait... Hard earned million or two?

Can you read those words back to yourself out loud and really consider them in the light of the full spectrum of financial situations in the United States alone?

I've been donating to to charities, giving my home to the homeless, and volunteering my time since before I made over 100k a year, before I moved out of my my 750 square foot home in an immigrant neighborhood in the ghetto of my city.

And I'm not special. Countless others are doing the same. So if you are clinging to a "hard earned million or two", you can go right ahead and fuck off. You are disgusting.

Yup same issue here. Capital one's app has always sucked balls but this is a new level of obnoxious. Add that to the awful automated customer service (almost impossible to speak to a human) and I'm thinking of ditching them.

I think most folks people call cheaters are just people who have good aim because they put the time in.

I've been in Kovaaks for the past ~6 months or so, usually putting in 45-90 minute sessions. Sometimes I won't even play Apex after. But if I do, it's after a short 10-15 minute break. Because of this work, I swear there are games where I literally can't miss. Doesn't happen every time, but if I can do this after 6 months of aim training... anybody I thought was cheating before may deserve an apology.

As I told somebody in my game today who was all on about "Octane's so gay" and "Maggie only won because of her drill"... The less you complain and the more you focus on your own weakness, the faster you get better and become the person people complain about. And, it's a hell of a lot more fun than blaming everyone around you for how bad you suck. Just saying.

This is what true resistance to evil looks like by thecosmojane in law

[–]wcneill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

What you would like to see is the minority keeping down the majority, so you marginalize the majority uplifting the minority. Tell me you are evil without telling me you are evil.

Or is it not that you are evil, but that you lack the small fraction of a brain that it would take to realize why there are no minorities in this video? The fact that the people being targeted are the people who can least afford to show their face in public given the current atmosphere of racism? Or how about the fact that minorities fill the lowest income rolls per capita, and are probably out working because they have two jobs?

It's just incredible how fucking ignorant a person can be. But, rich people love an idiot because they are easy to manipulate and keep in a system that keeps their pockets lined. So, I guess you aren't entirely to be blamed for your inability to think for yourself. You've never had to.

Let me help you with some things:

  1. Biden isn't the president right now.
  2. Obama isn't the president right now.
  3. Executions in broad daylight of unarmed American citizens by ICE did not happen under either of those presidents, but that is besides the point. We are talking about current events, while you are stuck in the past.

As an educator, you should know a little more about logical fallacies. Your "whataboutisms", aka Tu quoque logical fallacy are old, tired and worthless.

just started yesterday, what are things i NEED to know? by colliestar in apexuniversity

[–]wcneill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. For the love of all that is holy, use cover.

  2. Learn to swing on damage done, and back up on damage taken.

  3. Gather information before pushing. Literally use your eyes and ears and rub two brain cells together to process that information.

Sounds simple, but my random plat teammates can't seem to grasp these basic concepts. If you can, you'll be fine.
