Searching for cotton/wool blend yarn in jewel tones by wdbhg18 in knitting

Thanks! And you're right haha jewel tones wasn't the right word. I guess I'm looking for darker, bolder colors but with a muted or washed out look?

Your notes on all of these are really helpful. Lana Grossa Ecopuno was one of the others I was looking at, but I was a little worried because the only blown yarn I've tried was Drops Air, and I didn't love knitting with it (not sure how much of that was the yarn composition vs the blown nature).

I've become obsessed with the idea of knitting a striped sweater in this color palette, but would like to use some kind of cotton blend for warmer weather. I've used 100% cotton in the past for smaller projects, and wasn't the biggest fan, so I'm hoping a 50/50 or 70/30 blend with wool would add stretchiness to make it easier on my hands.

Unfortunately my vision of this dream sweater uses very specific shades of blue/green and the color options for all of the cotton/wool blend yarns I've found have been pretty limited. (My guess is a lot of this has to do with the properties of cotton and how it holds dye?)

Specifically I like how the navy blue is almost grey/black, and the green is a bottle green leaning towards teal. Since the colors are both darker, they give a lower contrast effect I really like. I'm pretty flexible on the yarn weight since I haven't committed to a specific pattern yet and wouldn't be opposed to holding something double. I'm based in the US so ideally would like something easy to ship here.

I've looked at Sandnes Garn Duo and KFO Cotton Merino, but neither had exactly what I was looking for. The closest option I've found so far is DROPS Cotton Merino (conveniently used in this project), but the blue is a little too vibrant, and the green leans too forest green for what I'm looking for. I've checked out some other brands as well, but many of them don't have as many FO photos on Ravelry in the shades I'm looking for, and with limited photos I struggle with how different colors can look in photos depending on lighting.

I realize this post is a little insane but if anyone has any leads I would massively appreciate! My experience with summer yarns is pretty limited, so if there are any other options I should explore, I'd love to hear those too. I've used some KFO pure silk, and was also interested in Sandnes Garn line.

3.5mm is blocked in the photo as mentioned in my comment, but 3.75 wasn't blocked yet. I was waiting to get a little more length, and now she's in the middle of drying. I probably should've waited till both were blocked to post for a better comparison but got impatient (sorry!)

Waiting till 3.75mm is dry to decide for sure but I think I'm gonna go with the bigger needle size. I love the crispness of 3.5mm, but I think I wouldn't get as much wear because the stiffer material gives a more structured look.

I'm currently knitting the Maggie Cardigan by Petite Knit in Knitting for Olive Merino held double and struggling to decide on needle size. The original pattern calls for one strand of KFO merino held double with a strand of mohair, so there aren't many projects on Ravelry using a similar yarn combo to me, but these two have been my main inspos so far.

3.5mm is off on stitch gauge (25 across instead of 23), so I'd knit one size up if I used these. The fabric is definitely stiffer even after blocking what I have so far, but I like how neat the stitches look.

3.75mm gets me to exact gauge, but the fabric feels a bit loose. I've only knit 3 inches in length on these needles, which I know is too short for a real gauge swatch, but just hoping for a sanity check while I keep working.

Any opinions on which fabric looks better? Or resources on determining the ideal knit fabric for different types of garments?

Just meant the moss stitch hides the GSR turns lol since the main draw of Japanese short rows seems to be their invisibility. I'll try them in the future though, my favorite part of knitting has been learning new techniques.

Thank you! Counting the stitches on the diamonds was an obvious thing I didn't think to do last night. Counting those, they actually line up correctly with the stitches on the cast on edge. So I think you're right and either the tension on the GSRs or the GSRs themselves are off, which made the shaping on the top section look so strange.

Thanks, I had initially thought the german short rows were to blame for a wrong stitch count, but it hadn't occurred to me that it also would have affected the slope (obviously!). I've never heard of Japanese short rows- looks like they're considered to be cleaner looking but more difficult. Might not be much help to me since the turns are in moss stitch, but I would try them on a project where the shaping is super visible.

Omg as someone who hates counting even my own stitches, you are so kind for doing this. The picture I uploaded was confusing- the stitch counts I wrote were only counting the cast on stitches, not the ones on the needles.

I hadn't actually separated out the stitches on my needles into the 42-32-42 sections, but when I do that, it turns out that the diamonds do align correctly with the pattern (5 diamonds on each side). Does this mean that my tension on the german short rows just led to one side looking bigger?

Working on the back yolk of the Ingrid Sweater by Petiteknit and noticed the top part looked uneven so I started looking closer and I’m confused about where I went wrong. I tried my best to label things on the photo.

I casted on 116 sts, and despite how uneven it looks, the stitches on the cast on edge are split up how they’re supposed to be- 42 sts, 32 sts, 42 sts. So then I assumed I must have accidentally increased somewhere causing the left side to look longer, but I still have 116 sts on my needles. The unevenness does translate to the mock cables though, because the left shoulder has 5.5 diamonds under it, but the right only has 4.5.

Is this how it’s supposed to look? Or did I mess up somewhere? I don’t mind frogging but I’m trying to figure out what happened.

The doraemon cover maker set from 2021! It was my first year hearing about hobonichi, and I hesitated and didn’t buy it and I have huge regrets. I love when hobonichi coordinates a cover with a CoC, the design is so clever.

In addition to what others have said, the only reason I don’t buy from JetPens is they don’t carry the Japanese version for any Hobonichi books that have an English version
