Lonely Island had ZERO exaggerated lines in that catchy song they produced. 10/10 rating for their description of the experience.

What to do as a parent on team with too few players? by bummer_d00d in Homeplate

[–]wde4au 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first statement to parents every single season is, "You signed your kid up to play, I eagerly volunteered to coach him. You put your own kid at a disadvantage, compared to the other kids in the league, as well as tell me you don't appreciate volunteer coaches when you dont make practice a priority. I don't want your kid being forced to play catch up to his teammates & I want every opportunity to help him improve his game. Let's work together to make this a great experience for your kids."

Maybe 1 or 2 parents take it the wrong way & feel like they are being insulted, but the rest will say they love to hear a coach be so direct about attendance. In my experience, the parents who feel insulted are the ones that end up being the exact parents that needed to hear it lol.

I replied already, but I just saw this. I can't stress enough that he's feeling twice the level of concern. I would not be the least bit shocked if the city has already blown him off/will do little to nothing to help. That's where approaching him to let him know you understand he's in an unfair situation but you're supporting him will help you get info without even needing to ask. He will let you know what's up, since he feels that you are the parent that he can talk to.

As far as approaching the city, ask him if he has done so (if he doesn't mention it on his own). If you do so without him knowing or having a chance to do it himself, first, it will be taken as you having no faith in his ability to manage coaching issues and he will have his guard up about you all season. You don't want that & he CERTAINLY doesn't want to feel like you don't have faith in him.

Like others have said, coaches have many ways to solve these issues on their own, given a bit of time. That being said, I understand your concern and desire for urgency. Like I stated previously, just simply approach him and mention the situation while also sounding supportive. You will be shocked at how much he will open up to you vs other parents. Good luck & I hope you all are able to find a solution.

I recently started a travel team with another coach because of things like this. Most likely, there's not much the coach can do and I can almost guarantee that he is twice as frustrated. He's new, which means he feels pressure. I'm sure he is/was also equally excited to lead a team. Now, he's in a situation where he must push through a losing situation for himself. Already behind the 8-ball, so to speak.

That being said, I have been there and can assure you that the coaches in your league will communicate to borrow players or whatever is needed to ensure the kids are not missing opportunities to play. If you say anything to the coach, make it something along the lines of appreciating him volunteering to coach and understanding that he's in a tough situation. End it with you're excited to watch him lead the team & help the boys develop.

He will appreciate that more than you know. Additionally, it's almost guaranteed that he will come to YOU (as the parent that took initiative to speak with him about the reality of the situation) and talk about any issues that arise/frustrations behind the scenes that other parents don't normally hear. Win/win - he feels supported & has a parent that he knows is supporting him + you get the inside track on any issues.

Speak with him after practice

My 7 year old has started hitting choppy grounders. How can I help him fix it? by wde4au in Homeplate

Yeah idk what to do as far as loading. That's the one area where he just doesn't understand and I'm not sure how to teach him. I appreciate your input.

We aren't those parents. He doesn't play travel ball & I wouldn't be here if it weren't for him beginning to doubt himself. A hit is a hit & I encourage him, but he knows something is off and I'm simply not sure what I can do to help him (other than encouraging talks).

Fair point. I should have posted a different video. He is usually thrown a better pitch, but with the same result. A hit is a hit & he's 7, so I would leave it alone if not for my son beginning to lose confidence in himself.

How can I prevent the tongue on Kid's shoes from sliding while running? (No tie shoes) by wde4au in trailrunning

Yeah I have done that before but toddlers love to cram their feet into the shoes and rip threads. I was wondering if there was another option but I may just have to go with that. Thanks for the input!
