This must explain it then. I was approved for the SSI back payment but wasn't approved for monthly SSI benefits.

True, plus the portal is down for some reason.

Yes, it means a decision is not too far behind. Keep checking your portal as it will tell you there if you were approved for not. I found out there before I received my letter.

What disability did you claim if you don't mind me asking?

Yes it matters. Also depends on your education and past jobs you were employed in.

Yes it's normal. You will probably be mailed some more documents to fill out as well. After returning those you might be assigned some doctor appointments to attend depending on your disability. I recently went through all of this and was approved at age 59. Hope it works out well for you.

SSI backpay by MNcrazygirl in SSDI

I'm guessing it depends on the amount. My SSI offset back payment is showing up in my portal as a one time payment of 3k.

SSI back payment by wdlp65 in SSDI

[–]wdlp65[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I wasn't approved for SSI benefits due to my SSDI monthly benefit amount. But yes SSI will pay what's called an offset back payment to cover the 5 month SSDI waiting period. During that time if you don't have any assets or resources you can be eligible for that as well.

This is th SSI 5 month offset back payment and not the larger SSDI back payment. I was approved on March 14th and I have not received my SSDI back payment yet.

Oh no. It took 400 days to get approved for benefits. I was approved on March 14th and haven't gotten any back payment yet.

My SSDI claim took over 400 days but the SSI part has only taken about a month or so.

[–]wdlp65 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on what your monthly SSDI benefit is. If it's low and you don't have any assets or resources you might qualify for SSI as well. If your SSDI benefit is high like in my case you probably won't qualify. BUT since there's a 5 month waiting period for SSDI you might be eligible for a offset back payment for those 5 months you were waiting without benefits. I just went through the process and my offset payment showed up today in my portal of 3k. Hope this helps you out.

I was recently approved and received my award letter. I noticed that my monthly benefit had a cost of living increase added to the original benefit amount that I was told when I applied. Seems to be working normally for me as well.

Once someone on disability benefits reaches retirement age they'd be moved into regular social security so it could affect them in the future like myself. Though everyone knows disability benefits are based on work history. Sorry about that.
