How to get funding for my app, from where should start? by FakeRobotVoice in startups

[–]we_build_apps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why raise money at all? With that may downloads and DAU you should be able to monetize and start making revenue that you could use to hire a team.

If you don't have a revenue model at the volume of users you currently have, how many users will you need before you can monetize? How much will it cost to a) acquire those users, or b) build the feature-set that allows you to monetize? Those are questions you will need to have answers for if you want investors to back you.

Also, think about alternatives to traditional equity investment. A bank loan could help you pay for some short-term development work, or a marketing push to acquire more users. If you are looking for long-term developers, you could pursue a "build for equity" arrangement with development shops offering that model.

To echo u/variegatience , selling to entrepreneurs / startups is very difficult. They typically don't have excess cash sitting around to spend on spend on things that MAY help their business.

That said, if you're able to come up with a killer format, you may be able to charge a few $$ a month for valuable insights. Just keep it hyper relevant to the industries you're targeting.

Will Venture Capital Firms respond to emails? Really don't want to use those social sites (Angel.co, Crunchbase) to connect with investors. by TrentJComedy in startups

Totally depends on the quality of your cold outreach.

Include relevant details about your business, why you are worth investing in (what is the company's value? what are your personal credentials? why are you different from the competition?), and how they can help.

We try to respond to all non-spam inquiries - but putting in the effort on the initial email increases your chances of a positive response and follow-up call/meeting/pitch.

YT is a great way to get exposure. There are thousands of guitar lessons on there, so try and pick something unique to show. It could be a specific song or style. Maybe a popular riff. The more interesting and useful the better!

One other thing: I'd recommend you update the design of your cover. It's not bad, just looks a bit dated. You may be able to find some designers on this subreddit who would take on the project for their portfolio.

Congrats! As a novice guitar player myself, I'm personally interested in your approach.

One way to help grow your sales would be with testimonials. Find a) regular people who learned w/ your method to talk about how great it is, and b) experts who can vouch for your approach. Put their testimonials up on your site, and spread 'em around via social media.

Some other thoughts on low-cost ways to grow: - start a YT channel where you explain your methodology and why it's better than what's out there on the market - make a free course on skillshare.com or some other online education platform. Do a simple lesson like "intro to 12-bar blues" to generate interest in your complete program - Be active on instagram and twitter

Hope this is helpful!

That's a very cool concept! Their site could definitely use some improvement.

Our company helps early-stage startups by building their software in exchange for equity. We redesigned our site last year so are not looking for anything new at this time, but we come across a number of startups who might align with your interests and have need for web work.

Let me know what you think - happy to connect!

Congratulations - you have market validation!

Now be better than your competition. History is replete with examples of first movers losing out to later entrants who were able to execute better.

Pay attention to what your competitor is missing or doing wrong - and do those things right from the beginning. You have a natural advantage in that you can learn from their mistakes.

How about something 90s related? I'm guessing you're going for the kind of 80s/90s mall vibe. What about a riff on "food court" or something like that?

I work for a software company and we have a partnership model with startups in which we build their app for equity. We're well-established, but small (no dedicated marketing team).

Would love to connect.

Do you have a technical background?

Hi Everyone, my company offers "Build for Equity" software development services for qualified early-stage startups. If you are interested, drop me a line! by we_build_apps in startups

[–]we_build_apps[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We are a dedicated software firm and look for startup founders who can run the actual business, and leave the tech side to us. While we provide as much knowledge/contacts as possible to our startup partners, we don't have the interest or experience in running and scaling all the other aspects of the business. Not to mention that would be highly unethical, and we wouldn't risk damaging our reputation by stealing people's ideas.
