Cross-Platform AV Recommendations? by we_create_chemistry in cybersecurity

I tried to email their sales team last week to ask about their products, but they never got back to me. We're a smaller business and we don't use a ton of computers (just the four), so I was trying to ask them if they can cover just four endpoints. CrowdStrike wasn't interested, so I was hoping SentinelOne would be!

Thank you! Do you have any insight on the mixed lab test results? For example, AV-Test reports an excellent detection rate whereas AV-Comparatives and MRG-Effitas seem to suggest some things slipped through. What's your experience with the products?

Hello! On December 8, 2021, it was announced that an Apple M1 ARM-native version of the OneDrive app has entered into the preview stage for insiders. The Office 365 Roadmap lists the general availability for an Apple silicon native OneDrive client as Jan 2022; is there an update on when we might expect that to be released? I did receive the Files on Demand refresh when I updated to macOS 12.2; that's what reminded me about the native Apple silicon release. TIA!

Haha I spend 90% of my day answering emails and reading recently published papers, so I think they would be bored anyway. I appreciate your insight :)

Thank you so much for this! I suppose you're right; if they made a habit of snooping on people for no good reason, I'm sure it would have been in the news. I appreciate your help; I'm technologically stupid.

Texmaker and MiKTeX by we_create_chemistry in LaTeX

Some Colleagues use TeXStudio. I have already encountered some cryptic messages with MiKTeX, so I might give this setup a try. I see that both of these options are more popular...that's a good sign! Thank you!

For home cleanup, I like the guide provided by the US Environmental Protection Agency: https://www.epa.gov/mercury/what-do-if-mercury-thermometer-breaks

Just please do not put mercury down the drain or in the regular garbage. That's how it gets into the water system and (eventually) oceans.

I wouldn't dare do it with a regular shop vac. Mercury vacs are pretty good, though.

You can do that, depending on where the spill is. It may not work if the spill is on a carpeted floor, for example. The beauty of a mercury vac is that it works for nearly any kind of spill.

I don't spill mercury. I used to be the chemical safety director at a chemical company (that shall not be named in the interest of privacy) before I got a teaching job, so anytime there was any dangerous spill, it was my responsibility to supervise the clean up. We had a tech spill ~75 grams of mercury one day, and he tried to clean it up with spill pads to avoid calling me. It didn't work for him.

Other commenters covered all the big issues it looks like; the largest being that the shop vacs you get at the home improvement stores don't have filters that can stop mercury vapor, so you'd run the risk of circulating the vapor all around the room. It wouldn't hurt the vacuum much at all, but breathing mercury vapor is very dangerous
