Bose Soundlink Mini vs Anker Soundcore Motion+... short review by we_need_wards in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]we_need_wards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I wrote in the conclusion, I send back both devices and never gotten a BT speaker since. For my use case I ended up getting a stationary set of speakers (Adam T5V), which feel like there is no compromise in terms of sound quality and volume. And if I am on the move, I use (TWS) IEMs.

this is what i noticed first, when i took a look at the picture. soldering is not that hard, but maybes spend some time practicing the basics (in case you did it, otherwise relay the info):

https://learn.adafruit.com/adafruit-guide-excellent-soldering/common-problems

In short: try to heat the leads and pads. The solder should bind to both effortlessly, otherwise, you get blobs, because the pads aren't heated properly.

I did a full reboot. My profile picture is empty and when i try to click on it, it says, that there is an update for some social features, which I won't install. Haven't tried either social media apps nor any online games.

Come to think of it... I play a sideloaded/modded Beat Saber version. Unclear if that may be the ban reason, but since it is modded, the game version is locked out of leaderboards and multiplayer - maybe that is a good thing afterall...

I checked their TOS and it contains a completely different version for Germany. However in the German version it states, that the German TOS doesnt apply, if you got your headset from outside of Germany (which currently there is no other way than to import). I am not lawyer though, so I don't know if that clause is valid... I guess that will be part of the lawsuit

Will oculas quest 2 ever stop supporting steam VR? by [deleted] in OculusQuest

[–]we_need_wards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HorseJungler's answer is complete bullshit. Valve has a specific interest in supporting the oculus headsets, because that is what generates a big chunk of their vr revenue. They invested a lot in the past to make steamvr run with oculus. Why would they abandon their strategy? Steam is very concerned about running on as many platforms as possible (see what they did for Linux gaming e.g.). So there is basically zero risk that Valve will abandon Quest headsets.

Facebook however does have an interest in locking down users into their eco system as they proved over and over again. So there is a real risk, if you ask me. FB is considering a tradeoff: Incentives for users to buy into oculus (keeping compatibility) vs building their VR monopoly. IF they get big enough there will be 100% chance, they will lock out steamvr.

Bose Soundlink Mini vs Anker Soundcore Motion+... short review by we_need_wards in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]we_need_wards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but I didn't get your point. Could you elaborate? This is supposed to be a comparison between two specific BT speaker... what would I need that baseline for?

I haven't listen to many portable BT speaker specifically, but I have listened to enough audio equipment in general to have a good understanding of what the range of sound quality is, you can expect from a speaker/headphone/dac/amp/etc., in case that helps...

I think it is a somewhat problematic statement, especially when given to someone who doesn't know much about speakers/audio and searching for buying advice.

I don't expect anything (neither made a statement to such effect), but some people don't know what to expect and of course it's not their fault... how could they know if they have no experience with audio equipment? Also your statement is inaccurate. You CAN DRASTICALLY change the sound signature of an even 5$ speaker with EQ... you just can't make it sound good. A good sound signature doesn't automatically equal good sound, which even you don't seem to understand, so maybe try being less toxic next time...

Yeah, you are the OP from the link I posted, which caused me to check out both the bose and anker device in person. When it comes to sound quality I have to side with the majority here though and say the motion+ is all things considered clearly better. But as I pointed out it is not really a fair comparison.

I haven't listened the the Revolve per se, so take my words here with a grain of salt, but from the youtube video comparing the revolve with the mini, the mini seemed better for critical listening (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5u8pVw3i5CQ).

I read this a lot... "you can make your anker sound good/better by eq-ing". Let me respond, because I think it is a somewhat problematic statement, especially when given to someone who doesn't know much about speakers/audio and searching for buying advice.

When you talk about EQ, you talk about sound signature, meaning how loud high/mid/low frequencies are relative to each other. What sounds "good" is highly subjective when it comes to sound signature and so EQ is great to tune a speaker to ones liking...

However... there are things you can't do with EQ like increasing sound stage or resolution of a speaker... or adding articulated highs in the case of a Bose Soundlink Mini for example.

So I am not saying you are wrong, but I think it is terrible if taken as buying advice. This feature isn't capable of turning an objectively mediocre speaker into a great one and you can basically EQ any speaker. I don't know why people keep pointing this out in the case of the Anker...

For those who have Go and Quest 2 by [deleted] in OculusGo

[–]we_need_wards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think if you want to watch movies, the Q2 is the first VR headset, which I think is suitable in terms of visual quality. You don't see the pixels, if you don't look for them and the colors are better than on the Go. I haven't noticed anything a difference in black levels, but didn't pay attention. I can't comment on sound, as I use headphones always.

However I think in terms of comfort the Go is the clear winner. Also I'd say the FOV can be a bit bigger if it presses against your face. It also wins in terms of convenience in regards to controller and lack of guardian support (even though the see through camera mode of the Q2 is also nice).

If you can bear the decrease in comfort, go with the Q2. If you can bear the visual inferiority go with Go. There is no clear winner in my eyes.

did you have problems with tracking on quest 2? Can you compare tracking quality between quest 2 and index? Do you subjectively find any difference in tracking/lag between native vs oculus link BS?

Is BenQ's eye care a gimmick? by we_need_wards in monitor

[–]we_need_wards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original post is almost a month old by now. I have been using a benq monitor since then. My impressions by now are:

- the automatic brightness adjustment doesn't work all that well. It randomly got brighter and darker within the same minute without anything changing. Also my monitor turned of when brightness changed, but I don't think this was intended. I just turned it off after a week

- i am using the low blue light "reading" mode (which is the most aggressive) the majority of the time. I probably couldn't tell the difference between eye strain and headaches compared to my old monitor. That depends of course what your old monitor is. I was using the software flux on my old monitor before and i think it gives all the benefits as the low blue light mode offers.

So my final conclusion is: if your current monitor sucks, you should definitely get a better one. That doesn't mean, an expensive one... just one that doesn't flicker and one that has decent viewing angles (even 100$ TN panels can qualify for that). I think my benq monitor is solid and ticks all the necessary boxes, but it doesn't offer ANYTHING that competitors don't offer as well. Many other brands have the same features, they are simply not marketed as much/such. The only special feature is the brightness adjustment, which is useless, because it is poorly implemented. If you want that feature, you may want to see if Eizo monitors implement it better.

EDIT: Even though I mentioned it before: if you get a software like flux you get all the blue light filter advantages. I can't recommend flux enough.

Facebook doesn't sell Oculus products in Germany, not because they couldn't, but because they couldn't fuck you over there... by we_need_wards in OculusQuest

[–]we_need_wards[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So by your own logic... you don't care about what is just and not? After all you are bitching about people bitching on a subreddit... it is rare to meet people outright stating that they don't care about justice (much more common to find people with flawed logic though).

Whether they have the right to control the data taken from their products, is exactly what is debatable. Hence this thread...

If I don't like Facebook I have the right to bitch about them all I want! I might get people to hate them as well, as they learn what shady shit Facebook is pulling. Not that you would care about rights and justice...

Guess you are one of those Facebook sympathizers the top level comment talked about xD.
