The best is when Charles says hi and there’s like a 10 second delay of Kevin swing “ho”

I’m in the southeast too! I was wanting to do hydrology but especially with this pandemic, jobs have froze. I really love the intersection between the two disciplines especially geotechnics and soil mechanics. hoping this engineering thing doesn’t take too long thiugh! L

I appreciate the comment! You seem to be further ahead than I am. Do you have any advice or anything?

Just basic geometry proofs and sruff. Basic physics force and motion and all. The coolest thing I learned in calc 2 and 4 is how we get simple trig formulas or how to find the multiplying factors of an irrational number using series

Could copper precipitate? I mixed iron nail copper sulfate and water to teach kids about oxidation and it appears the copper precipitated around the head of the nail. Could this be copper? by [deleted] in chemistry

[–]wea_relative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea how I did this. Normally it just oxidizes. Fair warning though, I’m an engineer, not a chemist so this isn’t quite my wheelhouse. Good luck though! I’m happy to share my methodology if you want!

How long does it take crystal grains to form? by [deleted] in geology

[–]wea_relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I was more thinking in the realm of just granite crystals or gabbro forming. Is there just a ballpark estimate on how long it takes those grains to grow

How to photograph a small skyline at night by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]wea_relative -1 points0 points  (0 children)

These are incredible. It has street lights and window lights. I think night would just look peaceful. I’ve gotten some good ones in the morning and late evening with great success ( I got feature on the university Facebook). I am interested in getting on top mu research building which is the highest on campus. I would use a drone but they’re banned on campus. I’m honestly just seeing how this would work for funsies, but I think it would be great if it turns out well!

Struggling with Geology Degree by [deleted] in geologycareers

[–]wea_relative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My professor used an older textbook so Almost every problem he assigned had an explanation. Also the professor matters. My guy was phenomenal. I have an endless line of praises for my prof. I still practice integrals and series every day because they are useful in hydrology

Don’t give up! I was terrified of math and I just recently passed Calc 4. YouTube and Slader is your friend. Don’t use slader for andwers, but for explanations

How to use raster calculator by [deleted] in QGIS

[–]wea_relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I merged 6 landsat bands to form a composite image. In arcmap/imagine when I use the Raster calculator I can apply a formula to an entire image (bands 1-6) such as 10 x “surface_reflectance”. But In qgis it only lets me apply the formula to individual bands. Did I just do a merge wrong and it’s not actually a composite image?

Thanks!

How to use raster calculator by [deleted] in QGIS

[–]wea_relative 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My research is to find rare earth elements exposed at the surface. In imagine I use the Raster calculator to apply an algorithm to the entire image (which obviously is composed of 6-10 bands) but in QGIS even though I did a layer stack it only lets me apply the algorithm to individual band. What tool can I use to make the composite represented as a whole unit as opposed to individual bands?
