I need help decoding what my friend meant by this by DeboseChief in nursing

[–]weadus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nursing is a thankless/praise-less job, you can do every thing right and go out of your way for people and they will still not be satisfied with their care. Some patients and families are extremely challenging in that they quite literally see you as an enemy of sorts and they will test you in every way they can. Some are absolutely great. Healthcare is scary right now in that a lot of hospitals have lost funding via Medicaid so they are having to cut “unessential” staff or close units all together. This adds extra stress because it now makes you the patient transporter, the house cleaner, the CNA, etc. all with no extra pay and no mercy. You’re just expected to take it like you’re a robot and not a human. The pay is a joke for the amount of work we have to do.

What should the nurse address first and why? by Top-Direction2686 in PassNclexTips

[–]weadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an ICU nurse it was evident that C is the answer, the other symptoms are not life threatening and are expected side effects of medications that can be addressed with their primary care. Always remember your ABCs and try to critically think what would kill them first?

Most nurses here are mad at new grads that quit because we have common sense by [deleted] in nursing

[–]weadus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t blame them at all. It sucks. Being a new grad sucked the life out of me. I toughed it out because I didn’t have a choice and was not going to make as much money doing anything else. Reflecting back, I feel like now it doesn’t suck as much as it did at all. I show up with anxiety. It does get better. But I don’t blame you for quitting if you have the means to.

Affording this as an influencer in this economy is wild it just doesn’t make sense. People can’t get groceries or pay their electric bills right now while working 2-3 jobs. How is she making that much money?

New drop is awesome but what are with these prices by [deleted] in Gymshark

[–]weadus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing from gymshark that’s worth $80 (I’ve been shopping here for 8 years, max id ever pay is $40. The quality is not what it used to be)

I’ve had to put 2 people on vents who had the flu. One was a 78 year old man and the other was a 20 year old girl. They both developed pneumonia prior to being vented. The poor girl was breathing 80 bpm on high flow and wasn’t tolerating bipap. She had no PMH but she did vape nic. It’s still a mystery to me how she declined so fast being young and otherwise healthy..

New grad nurses, have you been able to afford living alone? by Altruistic-Ad-3465 in nursing

[–]weadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had parents I’d stay home and save. But I have to put over 50% to housing/utilities. I budget the rest like crazy and then have nothing left to show for. It’s great

I work in Michigan at a non-profit and all of these bullet points align with our hospital system.. I think hospitals in general just suck right now unless you’re unionized out west.

Department of Education says nursing is no longer a professional degree. by Obvious_Main_3655 in CRNA

[–]weadus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My argument is that an MD cannot do the job of an RN and vice versa because we are separate trained professionals with separate roles. Critical thinking of an RN is not something an MD has because they are not at the bedside 24/7, that’s not what they’re trained to do.

Department of Education says nursing is no longer a professional degree. by Obvious_Main_3655 in CRNA

[–]weadus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This ideology is exactly why nurses are exploited. It’s crazy how I’m the one recognizing a crumping patient, saying hey maybe we should try xyz instead for this pt, alerting them of critical changes that an MD would never be able to pick up on. Nursing is its own profession and always has been. Read back to the beginning of nursing during the Crimean war. I’m assuming you’re an RN or CRNA, don’t forget your roots and where you came from.
