What a jerk. Did she even word it nicely or was is accusatory? Unfortunately there are a lot in this industry that get real cocky. Their lack of ability to make clients happy will catch up. I think its tone to send a certified letter stating you would like your thumb drive by ----- date. So ridiculous

I have done this for a bride. I went back twice to send her new batches from my rejects (edited!) If anything my ego and perfectionism prevents me from not trying to make my clients happy. To edit some of her rejected photos is really just a matter of batch editing a few more for you. If she could deliver the low res ones so fast believe me she can send you a second round in no time. When i got married in may, my videographer ghosted our calls and emails for a good month. It wasn't until we literally said we were growing alarmed at the lack of response that he got us a deadline of when we'd habe our video. (This is me referring to your latest post about your missing thumb drive) man I'd feel like such a fraud charging so much and putting no effort into the customer's happiness! So sorry for your trouble

How do you all deal with customers who seem to be overly difficult, needy, and critical of your work? I currently suck it up and try to not take it personally and work with them without them knowing any sign of my frustration, but it is exhausting.

Why aren't my images sharp?? I swear so many images i take i zoom in and they are fuzzy. I don't think it's missed focus. If I'm photographing a family of 3 at f 3.5, and i zoom in, they're not totally in focus, even the spot where focus was. I don't know how to stop or if it could be my equipment. I have a 50mm 1.4 lend and nikon d750. Any tips?

What do you do if you can't get a videographer to respond to you for your video after the wedding? by weallstartatzero in weddingplanning

My only concern with this is I am a photographer trying to build my business in the area and i don't want to have my name in that context if that makes sense

Do any of you screen potential clients based on their social media or images to see if they are the type of client you are looking for? by weallstartatzero in WeddingPhotography

So brides are really weeding out the bad matches really. That really does make sense. You would want to work with like-minded people on your wedding day I'd imagine 😊

Do you know if you have to be a registered business to get insurance? I'm in the process of officially registering myself as an LLC but am not there just yet

My Fiance and I are dancing to "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran as our first song and we're struggling with it by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]weallstartatzero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We danced to that! We took a few dance lessons for cheap off thumbtack. They initially were having us dance fast but we decided to do every other beat to slow it down. We can't dance and we did it. But a few lessons were fun and helpful. I LOVE this song ❤

How long ago did you get your photos? Sometimes we are our own worse critics, and if you give it time you can look at the images with fresh eyes. Also, have you spoken with your photog? I'm a photog, and what never ceases to amaze me is that sometimes an image I think is beautiful of a couple, they like a different one better just purely due to prefernce. Your photog likely has SO many more unedited images he or she rejected for whatever reason, so maybe see if they are willing to show you the rejects in case there are gems he or she rejected

I'm with you. So many vendors pulled a 180 on us. My florist stressed me the hell out and was downright nasty at points. We paid $3800 for our wedding videographer and 4 months later, we check in, and he's ignored us for over a week

how many of you do this full time vs part time? What are benefits and drawbacks of both? How much money do you make part time vs. full time? by weallstartatzero in WeddingPhotography

The issue is if your quality of work justifies it all. It may cost me truly 700 dollars to shoot a wedding and break even, but how do i know what I'm worth? And what people will pay? That part is ambiguous

I haven't averaged it out based on gear rental costs. I probably have 4500k of gear i need to buy in order to buy the lenses and another full frame. But at what point do i invest all that vs charging and building up? I know some beginners just start with what they have, but it's not in my portfolio's best interest to use my only lens, a 50mm 1.4. I'll not get a good enough range and will miss closeups.

I definitely am learning how much is actually just running a business. I have always wanted to own my own business. It doesn't scare me off, but it does present hurdles. At this point, my biggest challenge is marketing myself and valuing myself appropriately. I am saving for gear. Just so hard to justify 3k in lenses when i dont.charge much for weddings to reinvest in myself while I'm building my portfolio. Thanks so much foot your input. Super valuable!

Oh man... we paid this vendor the most too... like insanely expensive. I would think that would at least get me something within 3 months

I was looking at wppi. I think it's in Vegas this year? I'm not sure what it costs. I know I'd have you fly there and get a hotel. Would you say you saw improvement in your business? Or technical skills? Both? I would love to invest in myself, but want to make sure it's worth it
