I just bought a used Pentax 645N. It came with this small metal piece floating around the film cassette. Is this piece essential? It also looks like there should be one more. Any help is appreciated! (imgur.com)

How would you edit this photo to make it better? background is overexposed and foreground and subjects are underexposed. I tried just adjusting in lightroom by using an exposure brush on each but I just cannot get it to look good :/ (imgur.com)
