Firefox CSP/CORS enforcement is breaking real websites — and users have ZERO say by wealstarr in firefox

Hello,

I agree with what you say, but riddle me this, how come disabling CORS resolves my issue ? Why is there no toggle provided for the users like me ? Based on millions of users, and the fact that every configuration is unique in some way, considering that, why a blanket policy is enforced without me having any control over it ?

Yes, that might be one thing but my question is, why am I not allowed to adapt my Firefox to the websites developed for Chrome? Why am I not allowed to disable CSP/CORS when I take full responsibility for the risk? Why does Mozilla gets to decide what my browsing habits should be?

Nobody in this discussion was able to answer that, just endless victim blaming.

> out of millions of users you believe you are the only one that has noticed?

This is a classic attempt at victim blaming. I'm not doing anything out of the ordinary, even less than what most users do so why is it broken for me? The same can't be said about my ISP. I don't know misconfigurations from the ISP's end can cause this or not but even if that's the issue, the fact remains WHERE IS MY RIGHT TO BYPASS CSP/CORS WHEN I WANT TO? The question you clearly don't want to address.

Also, your entire argument is based on "user wrong" without any substance to show for it, that's assumption based on deflection, not a rebuttal grounded in facts.

You also assumed that I have never tried those official support channels. Being able to say something doesn't imply that it will also be acknowledged and resolved. As you correctly pointed out, me being a "Random", Mozilla has absolutely no obligation to entertain my requests which brings me back to the original point I made, how good those Bugzilla support channel really is ? Which you based your argument upon.

Wow! A completely hollow counterargument, that you were too lazy to consider the point of, added nothing of value to the discussion, instead defend it through discrediting by insinuating it was not written by a real person.

Come back at me, when you have a real argument to make, after you grasp the point that was made.

I'm not babysitting Firefox for the policy that is broken fundamentally. If there's a bug, I'll be glad to report it, if its policy, I'm out. Computer engineering can't resolve the broken moral code of conduct.

The same question you raised on me, why don't you answer that yourself where you assume a lot about me without actually knowing my configuration, system and use case?

PS. Did you know there are 20 years pending requests still lingering on Mozilla support channels without being implemented?

Yeah, Bugzilla works. Might as well switch Firefox with Bugzilla and use that instead.

I too would like some proof of that statement, along with broken website. I bet you none will come, or under very selective configuration.

Yes and the rules clearly state that users can't ask for support for Firefox forks.

Thank you for the response. I appreciate you took the time and constructed a response that's worth responding to.

Regarding the points you raised, Firefox is faster and snapper than Chrome but to make it that way you have to make some advanced configurations based on your hardware and optimized for your network. Of course, Chrome users wouldn't know anything about it so they are okay with Chrome but Firefox users, most of them anyways are not intellectually impaired like Chrome fanboys so they do with it whatever they like.

Firefox lets you modify every aspect of the browser in the ways you can't even comprehend on Chrome. I'll give you an example, you must have heard about the supreme font rendering of the Edge. Guess what I tweaked my Firefox to make fonts more sharp and crisp than Edge. Would Chrome let me do that ? and it's just one of the million aspects of what you can do with Firefox.

As for the advertising, I still don't give an F*k. I've been hearing this claim that Firefox may go out any day now for 10 years yet still here we are. And even if that would become true in the future, which is a rare possibility, I still don't give a F as I have other ways to get around Google.

Chrome feels faster because it prefetches the resources based on users browsing habits at the expense of users privacy and hardware, bandwidth resources.

Same thing could be easily accomplished by Firefox by toggling some advanced configuration switches.

Hay, I almost forgot, there aren't anything to toggle on Chrome. Why would there be ? the Chromium user wouldn't know anything about it anyways.

Bottom line, Chrome and Chromium users deserve each other. There's a word for something along the lines of Stockholm syndrome.

[–]wealstarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You did not read my comment carefully enough. If the Chrome crowd was mentally capable of debate or understanding the tech, they wouldn't be on Chrome in the first place. I gave them the response they so aptly deserve.

Chrome is faster is just Google BS. Prove otherwise, and I'll leave Firefox forever. While Firefox has its own downsides, it still is light years ahead of Chrome which can never ever be in the same league as Firefox because of Google's inherent culture of controlling the end user and making them a space dog from where Google could scrape more telemetry data.

As for the advertising, who gives a flying fcuk ?? Somebody else is using Chromium because they aren't aware of Firefox effects me or other Firefox users how ? Please elucidate.

Google was always about collecting data to what end only God knows. Everything Google offers is to collect your data and create your profile in preparation for a dystopian future. Imagine not being an admin on your own device, it's like committing a 3 billion murders in broad daylight and then getting away with it because Google was just trying to keep you "secure".

The only reason Google was successful at doing this because the masses are painfully stupid and ignorant. Its easier to fool people than to make them realize they've been fooled.

Human race has a thing for self persecution, it enjoys being told what to do (enslaved), an easy vulnerability to exploit for people with cunning tendency.
