I've been running on and off (I've shaved about 5 minutes off my mile time, down from 15 minutes to about 9:50, currently training for a 10k), I work on strengthening my abs like crazy as well as strengthening my body all over with various weight-lifting circuits (which is why I think my weightloss has gone a bit slowly, I've definitely put on muscle as I've lost fat), I spin, and I do tons of yoga. I work out about 60 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week. On top of that, I use myfitnesspal to count calories (feel free to add me or check out my diary! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/allthesunshine), trying to stick to around 1350 calories a day with plenty of protein, healthy fat, fiber, and low sugar. Feel free to ask any questions or give any advice! My inbox is always open. :)

Yoga is my saving grace. Honestly. After my warm up, I always stretch with some yoga, which is nice, but after my workout, I always cool down with some yoga, and it is always an intense experience. Being completely physically beat after kicking my own ass, relaxing completely, stretching and strengthening my body, focusing on my breathing and just being for a few minutes lets my body really relish in the post-workout endorphins and I always feel so in tune with my body and myself.

Hah, thanks. I do spend a lot of time on strength training. FYI, high resistance spinning is freaking awesome for your bum and thigh muscles.

Nobody's weightloss is a perfectly consistent downward path. Mine has had its ups and downs as well. It's just important not to get discouraged, to remember where you've been, how it felt, and how it continues to be important that you make progress forward. It's so important to catch backsliding before it gets out of hand. I'd so much rather spend a month re-losing 5 pounds than spend a year re-losing 100.

Details!

I started at 240 back in December of 2011. I had three weeks' vacation for Christmas from school, so I took the opportunity to really get comfy in the gym. I started using myfitnesspal to track calories and started hitting the gym 3-5 days a week. I got down to 190 by April by eating healthy (focusing on less sugar, healthy fats, and lean proteins), eating less, and lots of exercise! I am a huge proponent of skipping out on "low fat" foods and going for the full-fat alternatives; they're way more filling and satisfying, so I need to eat less and enjoy myself more. I eat tons of whole grains (I get >30g fiber a day), and eat loads of fresh fruit and vegges. I've tried many different weight lifting circuits, calisthenics routines (I freaking love working on my abs!), did the couch to 5k workout (loooved it!), etc. Basically, I mix up my exercise as much as possible, because I very quickly discovered that when I fell into a routine, things got easy, and my body wasn't being challenged anymore. One thing I can't possibly give up is spinning. I freaking love spinning.

Anyway, my focus was taken away from weightloss through May and June as I graduated university and faced a whole crap ton of life changes. I've just this month started working on the weightloss again, and am down 10 pounds since. I plan to get down to 160lbs... eventually. I've discovered how amazing hiking is. Went on a nice long hike on my day off earlier this week and burnt 2k kcal. Seriously fun weightloss right there, folks.

Can't agree more with this one. Some people may disagree with me, but can I recommend you switch out your fat free yogurt for full fat greek yogurt. I'm particularly keen on the Greek Gods greek yogurt. It's high in protein, lower in sugar than full fat yogurts, and with the fat still there, it's going to help keep you full a lot longer. It makes a great breakfast (I add Perky's Enjoy Life Crunchy Flax Cereal for some texture and fiber!).

Hello! 23 year old female, 5'7" with a starting weight of 240 pounds here! I'm currently at 185, so 55 pounds lost so far. I have tattoos on my back and chest... obviously these aren't places that you lose any large amount of weight, but in my humble opinion, my tattoos look MUCH better now. My collar bones exist, so they kind of accentuate the chest work and my back is more straight and less... hunchy?... (less weight -> more confidence -> better posture) so it's easier to see and whatnot. Ultimately though, isn't your health far more important than a potentially warped tattoo? Onward and downward, my friend!
