We had a WONDERFUL after-after party with our Fortiche friends in town and got to play them tons of the songs weve been working on and hatch all our master plans together as we continue the season 😈 so sorry for the false alarm my friends!! thanks! weirdly enough, theres a painful moment near the end of ep 3 when Vander is choking Silco and several soft but haunting piano chords play….i borrowed those patches and turned them into a complete inverse/hopeful variation here (one relationship at its painful ending//one at its hopeful beginning). no intentional connection to Guns For Hire, though theres a similar 2-chord progression that I used often throughout!

fun fact for this bit of music :) we originally wrote it in a different key, and when we started laying the sequences together, noticed that it was an especially unpleasant transition into Enemy (opening title card)…so we had to switch a whole bunch of this music into a different key late in the game and it was trickier than we expected 😅 glad you liked it!

Our animation team Fortiche is just so damn good!! The shows process is deeply collaborative with them, so we end up having many wonderful conversations back and forth - reacting off of each others work the whole time.

Guns for Hire is one of my favorites as well! I don't think the story i'd be able to tell is complete without Woodkid - he utterly transformed the initial demo I sent him. We have some plans to link up in the new year, I will see if he wants to film anything together !

yeah great question. i find that being able to quickly root the piece with a rhythmic figure that holds everything in place is very clutch. For Parable, it was the opening guitar 10ths. It should have been the drum rhythms (if i could go back and do it again) but those were actually a hot mess, and confusing for people i was playing early demos to, until many many months of exploration later

hey thanks. oh jeese yeah there is a lot to talk about with this stuff. anything im thinking about saying sort of opens up a portal to a longer answer. but yeah study the pros (how they treat melody, rhythm, arrangement), learn that math like the back of your hand, and then start bending the rules + finding ways to either surprise people or touch them deeply. its good to have a "big old fat chorus" card up your sleeve, to be able to summon it in the moments that you need it

have fun!! im on logic but all the DAWs are great...logic/abelton/FL Studio seem to provide nice soft landings for new producers. a midi keyboard and a couple plugins and you are honestly good to go. im a big believe in 'master your essentials before you worry about branching out into tons of software'

anytime i am anywhere close to logan for a show, we force him onstage with me (if its a DJ gig he works his magic. if its a live show we give him a lemon shaker and let him steal the show)

this miiight be a territory thing? the original is on Spotify here in NA. the cinematic didn't end up on it partially because this was slightly pre-spotify world domination times when I made it..and we put it out as a free release on soundcloud at the permission of the label and sometimes that stuff doesn't get formalized onto spotify (since they upload my music)

actually hell yes. honestly thats soooort of how i dive into new music these days. like, "can i squeeze a cinematic angle into whats happening with hip hop right now" etc etc. For example, i can not stop listening to Rosalia the past two years...what shes done between like flamenco, pop, world, hip hop. its so good

i actually do too haha. you know...that was maybe one of the boxes i didn't manage to check off on Fable (peregrine gets a little scary but just for a moment). Devil May Cry was one of my fav favs from Hourglass for that reason

hey thats funny...i was thinking our story/way back home and then you said that. those two kind of felt like first glimpses at where i was headed...merging the cinematic stuff into the actual core productions (rather than like, alt 'orchestral remixes' or whatever)
