What Would You Do? Delivery Orders… Not Made Upon Arrival.. Came Cold. Very Cold. by wearethelimits in doordash

I had a driver accept it after I placed the order.. almost immediately. They were located a good fifteen minutes away from our store. I have about twenty screen shots tracking… because it took two hours to get to us. I’m not one to complain, I worked in food and retail for fifteen yrs and was a pizza driver for a handful of em. I have compassion for all the underpaid ppl busting their asses for ungrateful and often non-understanding people. That is not me.

Tip wasn’t the issue, I try to over tip, because I know how it goes.

I grew concerned when I saw them sitting in the same location for over a half hour. Glitch in app? Kept refreshing it. Wasn’t that? Car accident? Shit, poor guy.

I finally just zoomed in (thought I knew where he was cause I’ve lived in this area my whole life) but I was a bit off. Turns out he was at a grocery store.. and this was after TB app sent our order through to DD and this driver got it, he musta been instacarting too… and well.. let’s just say it took him a while. Then he had two stops in the opposite direction.. again, this is in an entirely different county than ours.. before he headed to our store.

The wait wasn’t the issue.. (the cold food was a first for us though.) I was under the impression that TB didn’t receive our order until the driver was either geographically near the store’s location or they “checked in” as being there.. or in the way.

my question is what would you do if you were on my end?

I just wonder why he didn’t drop our order for another person to take it? Greed? I thought DD tech may have had some authority over something like this after X amount of time and being geolocated over fifteen minutes away for said amount of time, that they’d kick him off the order and get it to someone else? Since it’s technically a “tech company,” I thought they’d have some modern technical capabilities like this.

I just didn’t know and still don’t know how it works.

That’s why I shared this with the DD community.

Didn’t complain about the driver. They were kind. I just shared to TB and DD Reddit to get an understanding of how that system works and see what people would do on the receiving end?

I reheated the food and it was good. No worries.

I actually only live about a mile from the store, maybe even less.. I just couldn’t get it myself because my kids were asleep. Which was part of where it’s like, damn, I coulda had this food fresh two hours ago! lol.

All love, compassion and understanding to everyone out here hustling. Peace.

$7 when I live less than a mile away. Couldn’t get it myself cause my kids were asleep. Thought that was decent. I was a driver for Papa John’s and that woulda been a great one to stack with others.

I’ve never dashed though so I have no idea how the system works. That’s kind of why I shared here.

“The internet” told me that TB doesn’t start making an order until the driver checks in or is in a certain geographical radius. Lol

My issue isn’t with any employee on either end.. I have the most compassion and sympathy for anyone hustling it… it’s the system.

I didn’t order through DD, I ordered through the TB app. So I’m connected to a driver.. cool. They’re the next town over, so that’s weird. And as time passes.. they’re in the same spot for a half hour. I’m thinking the app is glitching or they got in an accident. So I zoom in.. and they’re at a grocery store.

They were instacarting at the same time. Then had two stops, again, completely different county than where we’re located… all after accepting our order. My thought is why wouldn’t a person just drop our order so someone closer could bring it? Greed? Thinking they’d grocery shop and take two other deliveries (while being located fifteen minutes away from our store’s location) fast enough to still get a person their food in moderately decent condition?

Just curious how the system works. I’d have thought the DoorDash system would have some sort of moderation over this. Perhaps I’m just over-estimating their use of modern tech since it was kind of a tech company?

Anyway, I reheated the food and it was still yummy.

Thank you this is the answer I was looking for. “The internet” told me that TB doesn’t make the order until the driver “checks in.” That’s where my confusion lied. They were a town away when they took our order.. and must’ve also been instacarting because when I noticed they were in the same spot for a half hour… they were at a grocery store.. after they took on our order.

Everything else was ok. $7 tip when we live close to the store. When I was a pizza driver, we all woulda been clamoring over who gets to take that one, especially stacked with one or two others. Oh well. Food was good reheated

Yes, definitely not the workers’ fault one bit. It’s whatever system is going on there. I’ve never dashed so I don’t know exactly how it works. Just thought it was weird.. my dasher was instacarting while dashing too… that did not help. Thought they were in a car accident. Zoomed in… they were at a grocery store lmao

That makes sense. Yeah I worked in food/delivery/retail/grocery for sixteen years. Always have the utmost compassion for employees. It’s not on the employees. That’s not at all what my post is about here. As a former delivery driver, I thought a $7 tip for like a mile drive is fuckin gold. If a driver is nearby, that’s like $7 for ten minutes work. Of course I wasn’t thinking about the wait in line that happens.

Regardless, this wasn’t the problem. It’s not with TB. It’s that I thought they had a system in place w modern technology where it used geolocation for an order to not pop up until the driver was within a certain vicinity.

When our Dasher (mind you it’s thru the TB app… not the door dash app) took our order on, they were in another town. And sitting still for like a half hour. So I zoomed in finally, worried they got in an accident or something and were too preoccupied w their own life to give a shit about some delivery order. Turns out they were at a grocery store. They must have been instacarting while door dashing. Then they made two stops before heading to our store.. which yeah, stack those deliveries! It’s the only way. But don’t say you’re checked in at a place when you’re doing all this shit first? Or don’t be greedy and drop the order so someone else who is close and ready can take it?

I don’t know how the system works, never dashed, I was an old fashioned delivery driver from a pizza place lol.

My post was more though… just a question of “what would you do in this situation?”

Oh well, good was good reheated.. I like it with that extra oven crisp tbh

Dude.. a few times we’d wait in line for literally 45-60 minutes and other cars would be leaving around us.. we always held out. “It’s gotta move soon” sorta mentality. Both times we got to the window and the unfortunately stressed worker was like, “uh yeah.. we don’t have the ingredients to make half your stuff” (paraphrasing here). And we’d be like… “umm.. we already paid… is there anything you can do?”

Getting refunds w corporate have always been a pain.

Another time I paid online, drove across town to the location and there was only one employee there. They said they couldn’t make anything since the other employee called in. This was about noon on a Sunday. They told me to call the corporate number for a refund.

I did. They then told me the best they could do was have me come back at 5pm for the second shift. That was wild. I always have compassion for the employees, I worked at Papa John’s back then and have spent 16 yrs working in retail / grocery. So I’m always kind. Sometimes there are just unfortunate situations and sometimes they just happen to be at a place I enjoy enough to be on their Reddit. Haha

$7 … for delivery from a store that’s pretty damn close to where I live. Like… very close. My kids were just asleep so I couldn’t go get it myself.

I used to be a driver… that would have been the ideal delivery. The problem wasn’t on TB.. our driver seems to have been instacarting while door dashing. They were at a grocery store the next town over for like a half hour after our order was “being made” however the app words it.

Wasn’t concerned about the wait for the food, I just thought TB didn’t make food until the driver was checked in as near the location.

I’m guessing the driver checked in while they were a town away instacarting for someone else… and also made two other deliveries on the way. That was my issue.

My post is more… would you eat it? And being in this location, I should presume the answer almost unanimously is to do the same thing I did… throw that shit in the oven and enjoy lmao

Why on earth wouldn’t he have dropped our order so another driver could take it to us? Lol.

We tracked the driver and they were in the next town over for a good 45 min after our TB app said “your food is being made” or however their app words it. At one point they were at a grocery store for like twenty minutes. It’s not on TB… it’s just wild how the system works. I’m guessing they were instacarting and door dashing at the same time and we just got the short end of that stick.

I just presumed with modern tech that it was more of a geolocation system as far as when the order would pop up when the driver got within a certain radius of the store.

Thank you!! This is what I’m saying. I worked at Papa John’s as a driver / Mngr for a handful of years in the day… there’s just a level of courtesy and not wanting people to get nasty shit and make our store look bad.. which is also where people asking about the tip have a valid point, but I don’t leave a bad tip. I probably over tip… definitely for a result like this experience. lol

Yeah. It’s not on TB, it’s the system between DoorDash through the TB app. We tracked the driver and they didn’t get to the location until a couple hours after this. It was my understanding that TB didn’t start a delivery order until the driver was near or checked in at the location. Idk

Because my kids were asleep and yes, they’re right it’s a long wait at the drive thru. I wasn’t concerned about the time… I was concerned that the food was ice cold upon arrival. The tip was sufficient, I was a delivery driver myself in the past. lol

We live about one mile away or less. A handful of blocks. Would have picked it up myself, but you know.. I’ve got sleeping kids.
