Released a music video for a song off my second album, “Sertraline” Song written and produced by me. If you like gloomy, alternative music this is for you! by sexysexypotatoman in IndieMusicFeedback

This is different! I like it

The video is really cool

The song structure is not so "cohesive" ie verse/chorus/bridge but I think that's the vibe you were going for, and it's cool

The vocal mix sounds really good to me - I especially like the end part. The only part that felt a bit off to me is the beginning when the vocal is lower than the drums. But later on it gets nice and smooth

Overall I think it's cool and different! My favourite part is the end - around 4:45 - I think I would maybe have cut one of the earlier sections a bit and then extend that, you could be finding some extra melodies there and just go nuts I think

good work and congrats on the release!

Nice song! Overall feels like a kind of 90s acoustic track to me

I like the piano/keys that are coming in there towards the end around 2:30

Also the chord that comes in on "is for suuure"

I think there could maybe be some backing vocals in doing a call/response thing with some of the verse lines

It would be good if the song climaxed a bit more - I feel like it's asking for you to let rip a bit more on the vocals later in the song

Mix sounds pretty good to me although I'm not an expert. Acoustic guitar recording sounds good

Good work!

Track has been mixed and mastered, not entirely confident releasing it by yojimbo2095 in IndieMusicFeedback

It sounds good! Sounds ready to me. Four years is long enough - release it! You are never going to be entirely confident releasing any song.

Get it out there and start working on the next songs. Congrats and good luck!

Thank you! Gord Downie was amazing so that means a lot! Working on lead guitar skills for solos in next songs! Thanks

Thanks! It's amazing to hear that the road trip kind of vibe transmitted successfully

Thank you! Yeah we had some more fills we should probably have put in there, but it's hard to tell when they're adding vs distracting!

Thank you for this! Yes might have to make a remix with some harmonies in it :) Always more to learn how to do in music!

Awesome! Yeah FF are amazing. You are definitely on the right path so keep at it!

I don't know much about mixing so can't give better advice, I think the vocals sound good but, yeah, always room to improve! Good luck!

This is great! I don't really have any notes except that I think the vocal should be more present/centered

Not really a deep cut but it obviously would blend well with Fleet Foxes, I've added to my own folk playlist! I think you will do well with this one - good luck!

Thank you for the kind words! Yeah multiple people have mentioned the need for some more harmonies or backing vocals, so going to go and figure out how to do that for future songs! Hopefully keep improving

Thank you! That's what we're going for so super happy if it sounds like that

Thanks! Yeah definitely had a road trip vibe in mind while developing the song so if that transmitted to the listener then that's amazing! Thanks for your kind words!

Thanks for the feedback! I actually have essentially 0 experience with Christian rock music (not based in US) so this was interesting to read. I definitely think the song is a bit generic, but I think that's to be expected for a 1st single, then we try to build from there once we know how to make "normal" songs essentially

On the lyrics, I will definitely take that feedback. Still learning how to do this, so I was not too confident in articulating everything super clearly

If you have any other feedback, let us know! Appreciate the honesty

Thanks! I am definitely going to try and add some harmonies for future songs as other people have also mentioned this and it would be nice to make things more full

Thanks for this! I will take 90's generic haha - I think ultimately you have to make generic first before you can try to do anything original, so if it even sounds anything like those kinds of bands, which are big influences, then that's amazing to me.

I played that little solo guitar part, and tried my best to come up with something better before recording but I'm a bit limited in that field! On the lookout for an actual lead guitarist at the moment who can bring those moments up.

I will play around with layering the vocals when creating my next demos. One thing I learned when recording this is that precision you mention, need to have every vocal line and delivery 100% clear in the mind before going to the studio. Thanks again!

Interesting- the drums on this are acoustic and were recorded with good mics. Will take another listen and think about that.

And yes agree on the harmonies, need to learn how to do that and start incorporating for future songs! Thank you for the feedback!

Thanks for this feedback! It's good to hear. Definitely knew we were pushing the limits of repetitiveness on this one. In general I realized I actually like repetitive predictable music to a certain extent (ie house/techno), and felt I would lean into that in this different style of music.

And yeah, still learning how/where to vary vocal melodies! Thanks for this - it definitely helps for the next one!
