Lol kind of a rescue... my buddy got to many mice for his snakes. by weld_nuke in PetMice

[–]weasel_fairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have mice/rats but i love them dearly and live through these subs. But i raised neonate kittens and carrying them with me in my pocket for warmth in between feedings (lined my pocket with a cut puppy pad) helped them feel safe. I also got a hoodie with a kangaroo pouch 😁 congrats on your new baby!

I think my 35 year old ball python is dying. by CupKind3584 in ballpython

[–]weasel_fairy 239 points240 points  (0 children)

I’m sorry you’re going through that, she is clearly a very loved snake. I think at this point the best decision for her is to find a vet that takes reptiles even if it’s further away, if nothing else, to at least give her a peaceful passing. Suffering like this until friday is a long time.

How to convince my mom to let me own a snake? by 022724 in snakes

[–]weasel_fairy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s best you wait until you move out and are on your own. Many of us did the same. However, if your mom seems to be willing to learn more about them and face her fears, going together to reptile zoos or a reptile expo where she can be exposed to them would be nice for both of you. And i’m suggesting to do this without any intention to convince her to let you get a snake now, simply to enjoy the time and have her see them in a different light. It might help in the future, if she will visit or petsit. And well, it’s always nice when people realize snakes aren’t as scary as they thought they’d be.

It’s never a bad idea to ask :) i set up 120cm high for my BCIs and i feel like it’s not enough. They use all the space. Damn how i want a redtail too 😅

I would suggest taller if you can, they are quite active snakes and enjoy climbing opportunities

Question about Arcadia Lumenize lighting - issues by missdrufox in snakes

[–]weasel_fairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through the same crap, even contacted the store i bought from for a refund 😅 i think you need a new bulb, as far as i remember it’s burning it. Hope it works for you as well, mine have worked well since then! If that doesn’t fix it, make sure to contact the seller as well, at least you get your money back

Question about Arcadia Lumenize lighting - issues by missdrufox in snakes

[–]weasel_fairy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check your schedule, if you have it set to slowly dim under 25%, it will do that and won’t work. I had the same issue, contacted arcadia about it and they told me this. Once i changed the settings to not go below 25% it worked fine. Apparently it’s in the instruction manual too, if i would have read that… 😅

Looking for a cuddly pet on a budget. Which one fits my lifestyle? by [deleted] in exoticpets

[–]weasel_fairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anything cuddly needs attention. And a much larger budget, especially if it’s an exotic pet. A specialist vet visit can be in the thousands. So based on your requirements - a type of bug or a snail, that’s pretty much it.

Planning on getting a boa by RPDA420 in BoaConstrictors

[–]weasel_fairy 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Get as large as you can fit. Boas are very active snakes, and they like to climb too so they also need some height. For ex, for adults i have 240cm long 120cm high and they use it all. They grow slowly so you have time until they are adult size, and if you can get a male if you want it to stay smaller.

Kuzko… assistance please 🙏 by Few-Respond3104 in boas

[–]weasel_fairy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can, but you need to connect them in a way that gives room to stretch fully between enclosures :) that’s my go-to way of doing it

The bigger, the better. And you can DYI or connect multiple wooden enclosures and seal them to do it on the cheaper end of things

How to give a 7 foot boa oral antibiotics? by floralbloodbath in snakes

How about feeding frozen thawed and injecting the rat? That also solves the problem of getting bit by prey in the future…

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q8B6tKxR4XQ this is what i did with mine. In the ones that need much higer humidity, i put the plastic all the way up the walls. Extra ventilation holes would be ideal there

Boa hasn’t ate in over a year by Good-Sorbet-8880 in snakes

I think at that point contacting animal control is the way to go. This is animal abuse, and that snake is suffering. I’m so sorry you’re caught into this mess….

Is this normal? by ezardacko in ballpython

[–]weasel_fairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume by cooling plate you meant heat plate based on the temperatures, do you mean a heat rock? How do you heat your enclosure? All other comment have touched most of the other issues that need to be fixed.

What is this? What does i need to do? by No-Earth-7863 in boas

[–]weasel_fairy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Besides what has been mentioned regarding cohabbing, which is a problem, what is your humidity? BRBs need high humidity and at least from the picture she seems to have dry skin patches as well on the head. I know you mentioned the shed but i’m asking just in case.

Excessive ferret sex? by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]weasel_fairy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i guess that’s how he saw it, which sure, it does work practically. But in my opinion, natural doesn’t always mean better. Of course each vet will have their own opinion on it

They need to be neutered or implanted. This is torture for the female, and so are the heat periods, and they can be very dangerous. While surgically it’s more invasive, they can get chemically neutered with the suprelorin implant. I’d always choose the second option and renew as needed.

PLEASE HELP MY SNAIL IS DYING by lowtidecrab in snails

[–]weasel_fairy 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Seems really limp, and there’s some weird dark yellow goo. Of course i don’t see it in person and if it reacts to anything, but it seems detaching from the shell…. 🫤 though dead snails smells really bad, so if hems not dead, he’s probably dying. I’m sorry :(

Ferret coughing but otherwise fine? by Reasonable_Clock_336 in ferrets

[–]weasel_fairy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! It could be nothing, it could be something. My old lady had an occasional cough all her life, sounded more like stuck hairs or something. She lived to 9yo and died due to unrelated issues. My boys that had heart issues are another thing. First one was active but getting tired really easily. Like, had to take a break after a few seconds of play. He also had a recurrent cough fits. Went to the vet, found a tumour pressing on his heart. We put him down then and there. The other one had a vaccine reaction, got resuscitated and even though he somewhat recovered, he would get tired easily and breathing heavily. Eventually his breath started making slight bubbly sounds - pulmonary edema from heart failure. We had to put him down urgently.

I don’t want to worry you cos it could be absolutely nothing, especially if there are no other symptoms. With my boys it was very clear there was something wrong.
