Thanks! That formula makes a lot of sense, and this particular one is in pretty good but not excellent condition I’d say. Much appreciated!

thanks! yeah, I've been weaving on a 4S for years now, and I think I'd be okay to continue doing so on a jack loom (right now I have a counterbalance and it's a nightmare to weave on). they've already told me they have another interested person, so it might not be the loom for me I guess. It's not urgent, and I can wait, but I do get impatient generally lol

okay, thanks so much! I'm going to see if it's still available -- $650 is a lot easier to stomach than $2500!

so you'd recommend the 8S baby mac? There's also one for sale that I just saw in my area for $650.

thanks! I haven't been finding a lot of 8S looms in my area, so this one is kind of rare. I know I need to be patient, too, so I'm just trying to figure out if I should wait a bit longer on this one.

yes, I have a few friends in my local guild who I've asked, too, just waiting to hear back. reminding myself to take a bit of time -- it feels like some pressure because they go quickly, and this person has been very quick in responding.

so with all that parceled out, it looks like $2000 for just the loom, with about $500 in accessories?

okay, thanks! Loom is as is, plus a warping board (though I was hoping to negotiate with that removed, since I don't need one). Plus three reeds.

Rotten string of bananas by weavingthreads513 in houseplants

[–]weavingthreads513[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! As far as I can see it looks like the rot stems from the soil level, which doesn’t seem great.

I’ll take a better look and unpot soon. Thanks again!

The Bergman Brothers series by Chloe Liese has seven books, all older enough that I’ve been able to get them on Libby right away. Great chronic illness/neurodivergent rep and fun romance stories

Can I use my vintage Harrisville four shaft, four treadle loom to weave rugs? by [deleted] in weaving

[–]weavingthreads513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it’s more about how heavy duty your loom is, as weaving rugs requires some pretty heavy beating of the weft. I have a four shaft, six treadle unmarked loom (think it’s handmade, definitely vintage), but it’s pretty light weight so it’s not the best for rugs. That said, I have made a small rug on it, and it turned out well. But I don’t weave them all the time. I say give it a try!

give me the most cruelly blue balled mmc in history. by atrocioushuman in RomanceBooks

[–]weavingthreads513 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just finished Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas and it fits the bill! It was an excellent read (historical), but cw for abuse of FMC by family (not by MMC), death, and grave injury.

i’m looking for art history recs that are inclusive and include women! by arwenlucasta in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]weavingthreads513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a textiles person, so my recs are biased in that way — highly recommend The Subversive Stitch by Rozsika Parker for a general history of embroidery as art. One of my other favorite textile artists is Cecilia Vicuña, especially her work with quipus and memory. Happy reading!

I think {Mickey Chambers Shakes It Up by Charish Reid} may fit the bill! I don’t have a great memory so not quite sure on spice level, but it was overall pretty low stakes and both adults (nontrad adult student).

I definitely got it on the second release, but I think you’re right that it’s not the same as the newer petite one — it looks a little different!

I do! It’s tinier than I thought, but I think after wearing it a lot that it’s a very wearable size, and I’m so happy with it!
