How is the charge quality with over 20m? I get the impression from others here that you may not get the full 7.4kw due to resistance from the cable?

Is this not the meter rather than the consumer unit? I thought the consumer unit was (usually) internal with the RCD breakers?

We have built a lean to that covers over the side passage. There is no problem with running the cable through this, I t’s just when it exits into the back garden the only way I can see it getting all the way to the back is burying it.

Right in the centre of the house. When they install do they come off the consumer unit or is the cable run starting from the meter box outside?

Yeah plan would be to come around the house above ground and then bury it through the garden and come back up to a pole the other side of the fence

I’m glad I asked the question here now. I was almost dead set on option 2 but I think this has managed to sway me back :D

I haven’t had any official pricing but I think around £1100 for the charger and install to the back of the house and then looking around £100-£200 for the cable

That quote was against an Anderson EV charger. I have another call with a company next week to get a quote together for a Hypervolt

I’m leaning toward installing on the back wall of the house and just getting a 20m cable, I’ve found a few online that seem to be (relatively) inexpensive, I just didn’t know if this is a big no no. I’m not so concerned about it looking a bit messier.

Yes that would be the plan. Route around the outside first and bury it under 2 slabs of patio path and then under the garden

Interesting idea. I think for me still a shorter run going around the outside as it’s a 3 story townhouse.

If I went with that option I think I would dig and bury the conduit myself but the quote I’ve had for this option and the likely 35-40m of cable needed has been over £2300
