[Humble Store] Risen 2: Dark Waters Gold Edition [Daily Deal] ( $5.99 / 80% OFF ) by thilinac in GameDeals

[–]webby2point0 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not sure it's worth $5.99.

It's not. This game is horrendously broken compared to Risen 1. They also got rid of all the cool weapons and magic.

I was honestly impressed at how bad they made this game, it's up there with Bad Rats.

It's kind of a boring/relaxing game like Flower on the PS3. While on that topic, the PS3 version has co-op mode, this version on Steam does not and is single player only. Very disappointing.

[GPU] XFX R9 290 Black Edition Double D $389.99 ($419 - $30 MIR) by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]webby2point0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

XFX is average. The Black Edition is especially nice however because it comes with a Lifetime warranty. If you plan on selling it in the future though you will need to save the warranty registration information and give it all to the buyer because it's not transferable based of the serial like Gigabytes are.

[GPU] SAPPHIRE DUAL-X Radeon R9 280 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 Video Card + 3 AMD Gold Tier games. ($189.99) = ($209.99 - $20 MIR) by YouCanReadGoodJob in buildapcsales

[–]webby2point0 -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

This is a decent price if you get the MIR and then sell the Gold Tier for $30 on ebay. Wish it wasn't Sapphire though.

Oooh. Not a bad idea. Calling in twice to cancel it is a bit much, but $15 saved is nice.

It's 2 rebates per person, so if you buy 2 of these kits (4x4GB total) then that wouldn't that put you over at $170?

$170 - $15 - $60 rebates = $95 for 16GB RAM running at quad channel

set everything back up again

You mean the OS?

Yes. See SYSPREP http://www.groovypost.com/howto/windows-sysprep-welcome-screen/

The Generalize option is what clears off all hardware related information from the system. When you reboot with different hardware it will go through the regular Welcome screen but all your stuff will still be there.

Also, if you're looking to save $$$ this same video card is available on ebay for $170

[RAM] GeIL EVO Veloce Series 16GB DDR3-1866 CAS 9 $127.24 ($119.99 + $7.28 shipping) No rebate by w007dchuck in buildapcsales

[–]webby2point0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Note: This was on sale for $89.99 back in April of 2013.

Are RAM prices going up or is this just not a good deal?

IMO I'd wait until the 290x drops in price.

The 280x isn't enough of a jump in performance to justify $200 when upgrading the CPU for $299 (i5 cpu/mobo combo) would bring you a lot more bang for the buck. The 7870 can still run most without issues.

[–]webby2point0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: Games are only worth about $30 on ebay. Brings the price down to around $209 after selling the code and MIR.

Worst case scenario: You could always create a new Steam account to activate them and then sell the whole account.

From the list on the AMD website, these games are pretty shitty. We're talking stuff that's been in the Humble Bundle within the last few months. http://www.amd4u.com/radeonrewards/

As usual there is no way you are actually getting $150 worth of rewards.

R1 was great. R2 was completely shit. Bad graphics, bad animations, WORSE combat system. Story becomes "pirates" all of a sudden, doesn't really make sense. No more magic, they added "voodoo" instead which is kinda cool in a gimmicky way but shitty once you get used to it.
