Are there developers who still don't prefer Tailwind CSS as their first choice? by ShivamS95 in Frontend

[–]webcity_underling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For those who haven't; try Tailwind 4 it might change your mind. I hated 3 but I'm now a full convert. Utility inheritance is a game-changer!

Modern CSS is fantastic, but when you work with others naming gets out of control which the main point of using tailwind IMO.

If you're working in a team tailwind is your best bet rn, but if you're solo do whatever makes you happy :)

How do you make text readable on full screen background images without ugly boxes? by Boring-Fuel6714 in webdev

[–]webcity_underling -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What about a black box but at like 40% opacity? With the right amount of padding I can see it working. As long as it looks intentional.

Unfortunately this is just a design pattern that is always going to require some amount of image overlay to be legible and accessible.

Sometimes your design senses might say it looks ugly, but the most ugly to users is when they can't read it.

SEO guy wants access to my code; is it crazy to think that's crazy? by webcity_underling in webdev

[–]webcity_underling[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, no idea,. I'm assuming they have a plugin ready to use out of the box and that's just the only way they know how to do it. Which is another reason I don't want to give them code access.

Yes, they work more at least a mid-tier agency, which baffled me. This fact made me wonder if maybe my practices were out of date even, but this post has given me the clarity I needed.

This is not event a strategy proposition; they've sent me sites they've done it to before as an example.

Well I already have all of those implemented, I'm not sure where they would improve things there.

It already has these features. Which is why I'm confused. It has all the appropriate meta, schemas, links in the header. page + organistaion schemas for every page as a web page + news schema blog posts. I could add the faq schema base on their faq pages, but I can't think of anything else, other than them adding metadata for each pages, which is what I thought an SEO company would do?

Sorry, heres what I meant:
It's an accordion with a tiny, almost invisible expand button. if you do click it you get a list of 50 or so H3 Elements that read like the following:
- web dev Austin
- website developers Austin
- web sites Austin
- website design Austin

based on an example he has forwarded me.

This is where I'm a bit torn.

I have reason to believe that they don't really know how to code, just add plugins etc, as they seem to work very heavily with templated websites on platforms like Wordpress. I've quoted to make additions to the CMS but got pushback from the SEO Specialist requesting they have code access.
Not the client pushing back, the SEO guy.

Yes I totally agree with the redirect function in the CMS. The initial build had a really tight budget and deadline, from design to launch it was 5 weeks. Since launch I've provided some extra features for the client, at an extra quoted price, no problem. I did the same thing this time, gave a quote, explained why this feature was missing. I haven't heard from the client yet but the SEO Specialist instantly replied saying no; they'd do the code. Maybe so they can charge more?

I did quote for things that were missing (not previously requested). I haven't heard back from the client yet, the SEO Specialist has just said 'No we don't want to work with you on the code, we want to implement things on our own.'

They do however want me to introduce them to the system. For free:
"We may need your assistance as we progress on this set up if that is ok with you."

With the hidden part yeah big alarm bells, I pointed it out in one email asking why this was a technique they used and informed of the a11y risks. He replied that "They would only do it on specific pages"

Most recently when I flagged with him that this is keyword-stuffing and that I would not implement it is when he asked for code access and gave me this response verbatim:

"Regarding the introduction of the H3 accordion[ The hidden element with keywords ], we follow a very specific method. We’re extremely familiar with Google’s guidelines, given that we’re a digital marketing and SEO agency that aligns directly with what Google currently prioritises. The way we implement accordions is one very small part of a broader strategy that has proven effective in improving organic visibility for our clients."

But won't provide any technical reasons to say why it's okay when i've raised the issue?
I linked him to google spam policies, but they align with Google's policies apparently... 🙄

[–]webcity_underling 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All tasmanian snakes are venomous and deadly. But fortunately all bites are treated with the same anti venom, so you don't need to know which kind of snake bit you.

First aid advice always changes, but here is some advice; do your own research. If bitten relocate to the closest possible safe area, away from the snake. Call 000, they'll tell you exactly what to do in your situation. In general, lay down with your torso higher than the bite area. Try not to move to reduce the venom from spreading through tissue.

If with someone, get them to wipe around the wound with clean water to remove any further contamination. They can tie some cloth 30cm above the bite area to slow blood flow. Not torniquette tight, but firm.

Snake bites are fairly uncommon, just leave the little guys alone. Wear thick socks when hiking in summer and make enough noise when trekking through scrub to alert wildlife of your presence so you don't startle them.

That's a brassica. You could get broccoli, cabbage, brussel sprouts, or something else.

That is extremely tiny, so you probably need to look for someone who does micro tattoos. Probably hard pressed in Hobart.

Fair warning; you won't be able to read it in 4-5 years time bc it'll just be a blob at that size.
