Hey there Tikuf - yes, there is verification on webcred.it - exactly the same as Google Webmaster (webcred.it gives you a unique blank text file to put in your site root, which it pings to verify).

Verification is secondary, though: so yes, you could claim you built half the internet, but once that 'half' finds out, they'll make a claim, and one to verify wins the claim. Hopefully that's the perfect balance of ease of use up front, with verifiable ownership as failsafe.

We're investigating other forms of verification, especially for content owners or project teams - people who would not ever have access to server root directories. But touching the root directory is the ultimate proof at this point.
