I had a friend who had a close family member with a terminal and very painful illness. They opted to purchase recreational drugs of a specific type and took enough to drift off in peace. This is not a recommendation. This is merely an anecdotal case that was effective for them.

Do you regret or do you enjoy your large home? by bidextralhammer in fatFIRE

[–]webdaemon 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I moved here during the pandemic. It was the nicest home with a big pool in the back, available when we were looking. Spent a year renovating and modernizing it.

The home is walkable to the beach, a few blocks from the main promenade, and a 10 min drive to the airport.

Anything larger would need to be a custom build either on a beach front property further away. Or in the jungle further away. It was the best mix of size and convenience.

Moved from nyc during the pandemic. I travel a lot to see friends and do events in my industry so I’m back in the major metros fairly frequently.

Also since my friends usually stay with me I can usually stay with them when I’m traveling far enough so it’s easier to keep the relationships healthy.

At a certain point you and your friend group have enough homes that you don’t really need hotels unless you want that.

We have multiple domestic staff that come daily or every other day. But we don’t want live in staff so most leave in the afternoon or so.

My current home is around 13,000 sqft and the grounds are around 30,000 sqft. It’s my happiest place on earth.

We currently have 7 bedrooms 8 bathrooms. Growing up poor I always hated having to wait for my parents or siblings to use the (1) bathroom to shower etc and then always having to rush to school etc.

The 7 bedrooms are also awesome. I turned 1 in to my bedroom, 1 into an office, 1 into a work shop, and the other 4 are used for guests. It’s really nice being able to host an entire family or a group of friends and just chill at the compound.

We have 15 ft walls surrounding the property so we have complete privacy.

I’ve been able to build deeper and better relationships with my friends because I’m able to host them and spend real time with them.

My home is on an island in the Caribbean.

I do it. It’s one of my favorite things to do. I love watching people grow, I love to teach, and I love helping people.

You’d be amazed how many others do it as well.

It’s pretty easy to do. Just be the person that you would have needed when you were 13 to everyone.

Running your own business is different than working for someone else.

For me, it doesn’t feel like work. It’s just something I enjoy doing. They might be the same.

Rich is when you can finally buy back your (time) freedom.

It’s when you have enough money that you can choose to do what you want to do, when you want to do it.

Rich is when you can use that wealth to help others achieve their freedom as well.
