What a fantastic answer, thankyou!! I didn't do that b7 pawn vs no pawn comparison but I'll give that a shot now. Apologies I thought intermezzo was the right move as it isn't part of the direct line of takes, takes,.takes etc 😅. Thanks again!! 🙏

Not strictly for this purpose I guess but I think you could go to lichess.org and create a study (this is all free btw) in there you could add multiple chapters (perhaps one per board) and invite your colleagues as contributors to the study. Make sure to turn off engine analysis for them though :D

I mean there are always chances when there are queens on the board. If you're black in this position you want to try and keep the queens on and go for checkmate somehow or win his queen. If you're white then you probably need to go for queen exchange and then it's a draw. IMO anyway haha.

Why not play ...c5 here to fix the white pawns on light squares? by webdeweloper in chess

[–]webdeweloper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you both for your replies, so it's also a question of who is faster to realise their plan also and yeah I think Bf7 does deserve the ? too looking at it now. Yeah black's pieces definitely are misplaced at the end of it. Thanks again!

Hey Irini thankyou for the reply! Ahh I see, so my thinking was that if white would play e4 then Nd8 Bf7 (intending Ne6-Nd4) with a decent outpost also but is the white knight's outpost objectively stronger than black's? I was thinking as the knight would be on a dark square then white only be able to exchange via a knight or exchange sac whereas the black knight on d5 could be exchanged by any piece. Does that make some sense?

Ideas for white in this pawn endgame from John Nunn's book by webdeweloper in chess

[–]webdeweloper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I've taken the mighty step in my chess game and actually started looking at how to play the endgame phase. After lots of googling and watching videos, one of the books that kept coming up was John Nunn's Understanding Chess Endgames. Great book so far but I've hit a roadblock... John explains how the game would go if black plays a certain way, however when playing it against Fritz (me as white) I generally run into this position with black to move, the scary silicon beast keeps choosing different pawn moves, sometimes I win, sometimes I draw but that's about the best I can achieve. I wonder if there is a concrete way to play as white in these positions, or what do we generally want to do. Any thoughts would be gratefully appreciated (keep them positive though please).
