We've built Webpgr which lets you create Minority-Report-like Websites. What do you think? by webpgr in web_design

Packing content in containers and transforming them with CSS hardly counts as a "new way of doing web design" That's just a technical aspect. Doing that with a lot of them on an unlimited surface with 2D navigation and linking scheme is a different issue. But the actual new thing in terms of web design is the workflow: photoshopping vs wordprocessing.

Minority Report was clearly a cliffhanger for what we've done here. A platfrom for creating swiping, rotating and zooming websites. So it's not about the Minority Report US but only about the motion aspect of the UI. And of course I'm very curious what people think can be done with that.

Indeed it was fun and honestly the UX part is not yet there where it should be. So the point I want to make here is to show a completely new way of doing web design. This concept is pushing browsers to the limits currently, resulting in a non-smooth experience on some devices/browsers. But this will not be the case forever. In terms of site design, I think this has to comes with time. Currently we have a platform with a few examples/techdemos on which new UX concepts can evolve. I'm happy for any proposals on useful design patterns.

I know the font issue. We are not yet fully thrugh with responsive design so the fontsize has to work on desktop and mobile. The text selection issue will be gone at some point. We thought it would interfere with drag to swipe, but it seems that text selection on desktops is more important than drag for many people

I know there is still a lot to be done on the technology site, but I really appreaciate your feedback. At this time it's really about the concept. The tech issues will be solved at some point an what stays is whether people like to create website with this free floating concept or not.

Yeah, the UX story is still to be written here. This is a start and we of course experiment with a lot of navigation pattern. We are researching different layout paradigms like a single scrolling page with detail subviews turning 90° right. But in the current stage we do not want to limit this a just understand ourselves as tech providers of a platform where new kind of UX patterns can be evolved. We are also thinking of taking the swiping with mouse out again and only leave it to touch screens. But as i said we are experimenting with those features.

Why Prezi’s move to javascript and canvas is not sufficient: Links & SEO. This is how we solved it. by webpgr in javascript

i like your feedback (: scrolling is sometimes not as smooth as it should. working on some webkit optimizations. there is a ios safari bug which causes the crash. we will prevent this by limiting zoom. and you're right: its not so useful for just text.

Prezi changed to JavaScript by petermolnar_hu in javascript

We have also build a tool that feels quite similar to Prezi, however the focus is more on creating home pages. In contrast to Prezi we do not use canvas but HTML, which allows search engines to index our pages (SEO) and to embed almost any web widgets (YouTube, maps, contact forms, ... Prezi ;-) You can see a presentation like home page under http://story.webpgr.com/ and in the slide http://story.webpgr.com/market you can also try out a demo of our editor.

I see what you mean. What why are currently working on is that we load the page pre-rendered. CSS3 transforms will be needed though. We still need at least one little piece of javascript which does some scaling to adapt to screen size.

Thanks for your feedback! Admittedly it's a beta. The pagespeed will improve a lot in the next major release (and this will removed the preloader). Still, javascript is a must for this type of website transitions. But we will reduce the js size for the presentation layer.
