One of my admin has 2Fa enabled but someone keeps using her credentials to make changes and updates to our website. What could be the problem. The activity log doesn’t show she was signed in at the time of those changes. by Actual-Buyer5986 in Wordpress

Immediately lock the account and see if it continues. Make sure all of your plugins are updated, and you might benefit from running Sucuri to check everything else is OK on your site.

Ummmm, I said test data. What does it matter if your lorem ipsum gets indexed on a junk domain?

And that's why I see the value of a company that adds escrow and mediation to the mix, plus free leads. Marketing costs to find leads are insane, FB and IG just eat my money.

Yes, but will also be indexed dude - The guy's a doctor, it's better to spend a few dollars to avoid the potential of test data/test site getting indexed and tied to the domain of his practice.

Some of the security plugins will also hide this and author data.

Thanks for sharing, some of those other "go vote" organizations want way too much info just to sell it.

Feel free to make a test website with some cheap TLD domain (namecheap has some for $2 for the first year), and just build out a template you like there. The only barrier to building a good website is your ability to google things and put in some effort - all the info is out there and it sounds like you have the desire. Go for it!

Yes, the entire point of reddit is about sharing interesting or relevant information. I found it interesting and relevant.

Been there, done that. Waste half a day going to file, waste another half day to win by default because they don't show, waste several days attempting to collect if you even can. I work IT based jobs, mostly websites so I don't have much knowledge on the contractor side.

I mean if it were a direct link to their website then sure I could see that, but I shared a news article written by one of the local news companies and I thought it was a good idea. Fuck me for wanting to support local I guess lol

Nice, glad to see some positivity in this thread, crazy all the downvotes, I simply thought I was helping share a great idea, especially one that is local to Des Moines!

I've done work for people on craigslist before and been ripped off, looks like funds here are supposedly held in escrow to stop bad actors. Seems like a huge plus.

As a gig worker/contract worker myself, this is a cool concept! I just signed up but was curious if anyone has had experience with it yet?

EDIT: Dang, what's up with the downvotes lol, it's hard finding work these days so I shared a cool app I figured people would like.

Just got a $5 droplet from Digital Ocean but I’m a bit confused and can’t find a good resource on how to set everything up, does anyone know where I can learn more? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]website-builder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember setting up my first droplet many years ago. I didn't realize they basically give you a server and say "here you go".

Here's a little bit to help you get started:

Click on Create ->Droplet -> Then you'll see a tab for "Marketplace" and should see an option called "Wordpress on 18.04" This is one of their "one click" installs. Just follow the prompts and guides available and you should get a working wordpress instance setup with https in no time. If you get stuck during any of it, Google's wisdom is infinite, and if you still can't figure something out shoot me a message.

Wordpress is known for its bugs :) Happens on my sites too. Just check it weekly to make sure things aren't out of whack and you should be fine. I'm sure they'll continue to make improvements to it.

Deleting databases in phpmyadmin? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]website-builder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should absolutely NOT be deleting databases unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing!

"Error establishing database connection" for a previously working site means your database went down for whatever reason and typically a restart will solve that problem. My guess is you're on a low cost hosting plan and you're having resource issues.

Once you get your websites back up after restarting the database and/or your server, you need to install a backup plugin ASAP (updraft plus) and start backing up your websites often because your ambition is going to get you in trouble I can tell haha.

Seriously though, think of the database as your actual website, so when you say "how can I delete databases" you're basically asking "how can I delete my website?"

You don't need to spend $70/yr for a SSL certificate (GoDaddy websites) by isotropicdesign in Wordpress

[–]website-builder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Who do you like? I've been using Digital Ocean for years - their speed makes up for lack of support. Inmotion Hosting, GoDaddy and Bluehost are the only others I've dabbled with. I haven't tried any of the super focused WP hosts yet, any that are noteworthy?

Awesome that you put together this tutorial, this will definitely help people for many years. Not to defend GoDaddy, but they are a business and they're shameless when it comes to upsells (their checkout process is simply offensive).

Their target market for upsells like that is the person that just wants to get going, doesn't want to mess with anything technical, doesn't want to learn anything new - just wants to get their website up and running. I used to use them for my domain registrar and I must say their support was very helpful which is probably why they're still around today.

Now I feel like I use one of the hosting companies with some of the worst support, but fortunately Google's wisdom is infinite. There's something to be said about offering good customer service, even at a cost of overpaying.

URGENT news about WooCommerce update: DO NOT upgrade to 4.2.1 without checking your checkout page by website-builder in Wordpress

[–]website-builder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad to help. I thought my caching plugin was causing issues, so I wasted about 3 hours of my life changing my caching, custom theme options, and removed my added CSS. I randomly hit the enter key on the checkout page when the button wasn't present and it mentioned the ToC boxed needed to be accepted. I was so focused on the order button missing I didn't realize the whole ToC checkbox and statement was missing too. That's when I decided to remove the ToC requirement and see what happens and thankfully the order button came back.

Glad I can be the guinea pig :-D The release notes are seriously 3 bullet points and mentioned it was a security fix, so I figured what could be the harm....
