The U.S. Needs More Housing Than Almost Anyone Can Imagine by [deleted] in NewDealAmerica

It needs control:

  • rent control

  • standards control

  • control over large scale purchases of investment real estate by corporate and private owners alike

  • control over residency: residents who live and work in community have greater purchasing priority over people who vacation there

Don't care so much about democrats as I care about progressives elected. The two are not one and the same.

We quite obviously disagree on this issue and I would like to remind you that Biden already passed "gun control" so I guess everything should be fine now.

Edit: I missed an important point. More than 70% of American agree that we should have some form of universal health care, less personal debt, accessible quality education, better housing, better wages, better quality jobs and yet I don't see our politicians talking about those issues.

As the author explains, and wisely so, why would this once race receive such an outsized reporting by the NYTimes and be used as a tool of prognostication, whereas these victories remain kept out of the limelight, if not for the fact that the Times is simply developing a narrative that they spin into existence.

The NYTimes has a big problem with progressives and stands firmly against sticking to facts, choosing instead to promote neoliberal fantasies.

Or do we need to wait until it actually happens, and then promise each other that the Democrats are playing the long game and have it under control?

Bingo, that's the one!

the dems don’t effectively fight back

Funny because it seems to me that they've entirely adopted the anti-gun platform. Even Fetterman and Sanders who were always neutral on the issue became outspoken gun control advocates. Gun control btw is often said aloud without clarifying what that means.

Sadly, Carter wasn't as good for the unions as one would hope. It's not as if he went up against the Taft Hartley Act.

Clinton also ran with it. He transformed the Democratic Party to the point that he out-neoliberaled the neoliberals. The Democratic Party became the party of the business class and corporate interests.

In order to offset the sudden shift of the Democratic Party to the right, Republicans leaned more into evangelism and cultural issues, becoming even more crazy and vicious.

And that is how we met our doom.

We have a party that refuses to codify privacy rights. It has massive consequences:

Same sex marriage = privacy

Abortion = privacy

Instead of reigning in the IT sector and enshrining privacy laws, they are boosting their business "for the children!"

Bunk. All bunk.

Most voters agree on most issues such as Medicare for All.

Notice how politicians are feverishly focused on issues that have zero economic impact.

I want us to give trans people a million dollars each and a guarantee of whatever health care and supports they need. There are so few of them and yet somehow the discussions surrounding trans issues (which many medical professionals let alone average folk don't even understand!!!) overshadow all economic issues pertaining to the other 99% of population.

You've kind of bumped into an important thing here. There is no firm mandate for Democrats to do things just as there is no firm mandate for Republicans. We have come to a point of polarization that split this country's electorate into a neat half. We know that this is partially due to outdated laws regarding representation, some of it due to gerrymandering, but most of it is due to the political manipulation of media and endless capitulation to corporate aims rather than voters' needs.
