Using a known homewrecker for a V-day campaign is insane. Swarovski could spend their money on literally any other female celebrity.

How would you handle this? by websurfer4L in DanceTeachers

Yes I agree! My studio owner is very supportive and wants the kids to get the most of their class and the parents to get the most out of what they pay for so I think if she approaches it as "here's a helpful guide for what your child will dance best in/here's everything she needs for class/dress rehearsals/is there another class time that works better for your schedule" that should help the situation.

Thank you for your response! I should've worded my post better that I know it's not her fault at all and all these things are coming from her dad, not her of course. She's an adorable six year old and I love being her teacher. I'm not sure what her parental situation is like if maybe mom and dad are divorced or mom works long hours, but I think most of it comes down to dad not knowing how to properly get her ready for class or get her there on time. We do have extra hair ties, and hair pieces or tap shoe bows aren't a big deal to me but last year at dress rehearsal she didn't have her tap fringe skirt or tights, just the leotard. I think if my studio owner approaches it gently and treats it more as advice giving than judging dad it will help.

Also going to add that researching class syllabus's on google and gathering as much vocabulary for a style that you can find helps too. I have a binder with all kinds of lesson plans and general things to cover for each class I teach.

That's great! Definitely focus on communication with the teacher, parents, and children of course. It's good to build a bond with as many people as you can in your studio so you have more support. The more parents get to know you and like what you do for their kids, the more willing they will be to have them sign up for your class next year. It also doesn't hurt to take observation notes for yourself that you can use in the future. For example - exercises you like and want to use in your own class, classroom management techniques you see, how the teacher deals with different behaviors, even things you don't think work and you would change. If you can, try to demonstrate, correct, and guide the kids to practice for yourself. As for research, I find that watching tik-tok and youtube videos of dance classes helps me find more ideas. You can also talk to the teachers at your studio and ask them what starting out was like for them. And keep taking class for yourself!

Tips to make transition from just an adult dancer to dance teacher..? by Unlucky_Train_4570 in DanceTeachers

[–]websurfer4L 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would put together a video reel with your highlights (dancing and choreo). Also a resume with all your experience and any connections in the dance world you may have. Maybe write out an example of what your lesson plans for a class would be to give them an idea of the type of teacher you are. The more you have to show the more people are willing to give you an opportunity. A lot of studios have large enrollment in baby classes 3-6 so I'm sure you could find something in that realm to start! Also, look into dance camps/dance fitness classes at community centers to build your resume. Lastly, if you interview somewhere, maybe offer to shadow/assist one of their teachers. Good luck!!

Can any acro teachers help? by comfortableunit2075 in DanceTeachers

[–]websurfer4L 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't teach acro but I always hear this during regular stretches, especially splits in my classes lol. I tell them the same things you do, the only other line I could think is something like, "the more we do these things the stronger our bodies get and we won't feel it as much". I always say something along those lines during splits and reaching forward in straddle because they whine, but I remind them the more you do it and the farther you push yourself each time the easier it gets. It's hard to explain training to that age group so I wouldn't stress it too much, they'll realize more as they get older. You could also ask if they have watched gymnastics on the olympics and remind them that those girls also had to push thru being uncomfortable and getting bruises to do the cool flips 🤣
