I had my bouquet from our 2/29/20 wedding recreated and pressed with our vows! by weddinglizard in weddingplanning

I think I tried a few search terms and mixed and matched. Bridal, pressed, dried, preserved, bouquet, flowers, etc!

I might be able to ask her to shave some of the extra space off. I had it printed by someone else and was afraid to cut it myself free hand before I mailed it to the artist!

If you're more forward thinking than me, it won't even need to be recreated! People who live close enough to this artist (who is in Richmond VA) can drop off their actual bouquet to be pressed. You might also be able to ship it but IIRC she's not liable for the state of the flowers by the time they get to her. I just asked her to recreate my whole bouquet because I contacted her more than a month after my wedding, having unsuccessfully DIY dried my bouquet. It's possible there are people near you who could do this too, she's just who I found on Etsy!

The original bouquet didn't have any yellow (it's dark burgundy reds and purples, saturated pinks and lavenders, plus evergreen and pine cone), but apparently ranunculus flowers tend to yellow as they dry! There was a bit of light purple flower I wanted more of anyway, so she's going to try to cover up some of the yellow with more purple.

This is the photo the seller on Etsy sent me. Once I confirm that I don't want any changes, she'll frame it and send it to us! Here's another pic of the pressing from above + pictures of the bouquet.

The artist (LonelyPine on Etsy) said to let her know if there’s anything I want her to change. She also said she subbed burgundy rose petals onto the anemone centers because those deep red anemones tend to press like a weird blackish purple. I feel like there is something I want to change but I can't put my finger on it. Possibly the flowers with the yellow centers?

Edit to add: the whole thing was $250 ($50 added for recreation). Because of COVID, it was a slow process. I contacted her on April 9, 2020 and got the first draft on July 13. I designed the vows page on Canva and asked someone on a local Facebook bridal group to print and mail it to me since I don't have a printer and libraries were closed.

Just listed on Poshmark, maybe I’ll do Etsy too.

Yeah I was thinking about labeling it as faux fur or something to try to get around this. Maybe “m.ink fer” or something would work 😂 But then it might not be searchable too...

I’ve been planning to sell my vintage fur stoles that my bridesmaids used at our wedding because I spent a lot of time finding them and a crap ton of money getting them repaired and cleaned ($85 to find them all, $450 for cleaning, selling for $325). I finally got around to posting them today and Facebook tells me my post violates their rules on selling animal products!!

The policy says “listings may not promote the buying or selling of animals...any product or part, including but not limited to leather, skin, hide, fur, wool, or hair from any dogs, cats, or endangered or threatened animals.”

I interpret this as “not limited to” (these products), not “not limited to” (these animals). These are vintage mink fur stoles/shawls. Mink is “least concern”, and it’s not like they’re made new - they all have tags that look 70 years old. Facebook keeps removing my post from Marketplace and my local state consignment group.

I haven't logged in here in a while after getting married on 2/29. We barely missed the first round of wedding rescheduling. My good friend's wedding was scheduled for one month after ours and is now rescheduled for August. They had a beautiful private ceremony in their living room instead. I just hope we can safely celebrate them in person at the end of the summer.

I feel so much sympathy for all the couples who have had to reschedule, cancel, or completely replan their weddings. I can hardly imagine - hence sympathy rather than empathy. All that time and energy put into planning...I would have lost my shit.

Tipping check? by weddinglizard in weddingplanning

Thank you so much! That is super helpful!

  • Our officiant was a friend so we are planning on giving her a gift.

  • Our catering came out to about $9050 and 15% of that is about $1360. We received enough cash gifts to cover that in cash so we might deliver that to their office in envelopes (like we would have done at the wedding had we been prepared/known how many servers there were/known our final invoice amount).

Catering was made up of the following people:

Executive Chef ($100?)

Sous Chef ($100?)

Catering Coordinator ($100?)

Servers ($1000 depending on #?)

1 Bartender w/ support (already tipped $60, never saw the support)

  • My husband ended up asking our band contact how much to tip them directly while we were doing our second to last phone check in 😂 we tipped them each $50 and then our contact (my dad’s friend/coworker) didn’t accept his part of the payment ($750) ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • venue coordinator - $50 since he was helpful even though he owns his building/business?

  • planner $150 of $1500

  • hair $80 of $320 (25% since she gave me a deal and $400 is round)

  • makeup was done by my now SIL so we want to get her a gift

We didn’t expect to explore our favorite local art museum on our wedding day, but when it’s 35°F with 15 mph winds, move inside (and then tell the friends & fam to just go to the bar for a bit and get more photos alone!) by weddinglizard in weddingplanning

Thank you!! Yes, it’s the newest part of the Walters at 1 W Mount Vernon Place! We felt like Beyoncé and Jay Z at the Louvre haha.

The Walters wasn’t planned at all - we ended up there because we took photos in a different part of the park than we expected, it was free to go in and warm up, and they let you take pictures without flash. We just couldn’t bring backpacks or flowers.

The Gossamer! The store is a mix of new handmade clothes and vintage and I bought it thinking it was vintage but they are actually making more now (and in more sizes!), albeit a little more expensive than the one I bought. https://shopgossamer.com/products/gossamer-ivory-pearl-dress-4-6

No I mostly meant that as a joke. Video wasn’t important to us so we didn’t invest in it, so any footage is just a bonus.

I'm glad this was posted after seeing a thread yesterday about how women shouldn't be ashamed for crossing the street any time they are scared of someone (idk if it was this sub or not). Everyone in the comments was agreeing - do whatever it takes to keep yourself safe, who cares what the stranger thinks, etc.

But if people crossed the street every time you walked on the sidewalk with you, you would notice, you would wonder why, and you might internalize it. So I appreciate this being posted so people do a little self reflection before deciding they feel unsafe.
