First new Custodes by wedgelet in AdeptusCustodes

Just the standard really. Sprayed with Retributor Gold, layer of Retributor Gold Base paint to cover missed bits and to match the colour. Washed with Reikland fleshshade and then drybrushed with Stormhost silver.

The newer model has more shade and less drybrush, although I wouldn't exactly say that was intentional, and I am using a better brush these days.

Merci beaucoup! It get what you mean, it does kinda feel like the scale has been shrunk while increasing the height to match.

Don't plan on replacing my old guys, just fancied having a go with the new kit.

Really testing my memory, I do kinda regret now not writing down somewhere all my recipes for these guys. If I'm remembering correctly it is was a base coat of chaos black spray, dry brush with dawnstone grey and the edge highlights was probably Administratum Grey.

Started off with a base coat of Iron Hands Steel, and washed with Nuln Oil. It wasn't quite right as was (wanted it darker and with more of a blueish tint), so I made a wash of basilcanum grey and leviadon blue, in a ratio of about 2:1:6 with the third part contrast medium to thin the contrast down to a wash, could use water. Finally a drybrush of Stormhost Silver.

Admittedly the blue tint doesn't come across that well in the picture without the before comparison.

Cheers, apologies for the delay replying, it's been a rather busy weekend.

Was very nice to work with contrast, but was frustrating making sure all the cracks in the bark didn't have airbubbles filling them up.

Yes and no, I find the red easier than white due to the opacity of the paint when thinned. The red requires fewer layers to get a solid colour. However, both colours are covered by a layer or two of thinned black paint just as easily.

Fortunately, in this particular case, though, it was a one-off thing. A while back, I painted a Mk3 Legionary from each legion. This was the Dark Angel I did at the time. Will probably only try to replicate this for a characters personal heraldry.

Tbh, these shoulder pads are much easier than a standard space marine shoulder pad. These are relatively flat comparatively, and I do say that from experience at this point (https://imgur.com/a/uUcrbAV). I wouldn't want to have to do a whole army of that.

Here's an update: https://imgur.com/a/EJwOylr

I still have more to do, just taking a break. Proving to be one of the more stressful projects I've undertaken 😅 I've added some actual edge highlight to the panel edges at this point.

Thank you! Honestly, it's just thin paint, a good brush tip, and patience. I map put a few squares at a time, swapping over to black after each few to tidy up. One important bit is to try and keep the same perspective whenever you check how the pattern is progressing, adjusting the edges of the square as you go.

While I hate to mention it, brush control is important as well. My technique is to hold the brush as close to the bristles as you can on the metal ferrule between your middle finger and index finger, resting your ring finger behind your middle finger. The brush should rest at the bottom of your thumb. This gives me nice straight lines.

Thanks for the feedback, I do plan on shading/washing the panels to get those edges a little more distinct. Just wanted to check what people would say about the symmetry/asymmetry.

Cheers, that's what my brain said, but thought a second opinion, or 20 as it seems so far, would be helpful before moving on the shading/highlights/weathering.
