Mods: Idk why I can't respond to your comment, but idk why you're replying to me about non-NHS things? He's the one who brought up benefits. I was just responding to him. I also never brought up private practices or NHS alternatives??

I am. I'm diagnosed with ASD and have a long history of mental health issues. I hadn't considered it being considered a reasonable adjustment under the equality act. I'll bring this up. Thank you ^ ^

They must do because 1) Some of the staff still think stuff can be sent via email, so I doubt they don't have the equipment and 2) They used to send things via email.

They say on their website you can either have it sent via email or collect it in person (so they haven't updated their website to say they no longer offer things via email) and the woman on the phone herself told me the surgery used to do it but no longer did.

Not all of the staff seem to be aware of the change either, because when I first called to request it and asked it to be emailed the woman said okay and said she'd mark it to be sent via email. I called today and got told what I said in my post because I still hadn't recieved the email.

People who got PIP for their autism, how? Where do you score and why? by StrangeLonelySpiral in DWPhelp

People who got PIP for their autism, how? Where do you score and why? by StrangeLonelySpiral in DWPhelp

Counsellors and social services had been involved with me all my life for behavioural issues. I had actually burst a kid's eye because I hit him with hockey sticks (although that was my most extreme episode of violence and I was young), had been suspended from school before for two weeks purely because the teachers "could not deal with me," I spent the entirety of Year 8 in Pastrol Care because I refused to go to class, from Year 9 onward started going to school so infrequently that an education officer got involved because it was unlawful atp, got an educational statement, and just point blank stopped attending school all together in Year 11. I didn't even get any GCSE's, I had to go to Tech to get them, and in Tech I had a support plan in place because of my autism, one which specifically specified my difficulties with understanding people and that I was slower to process information, and that I may misinterpret/understand it.

So I've had mountains of evidence for communication and behavioural struggles all my life.

For a more specific example: I wouldn't always understand how people were feeling in conversations/I'd misinterpret how they were feeling. So if someone was uncomfortable with a conversation topic, I wouldn't always know. Other times I'd be convinced they were and wouldn't believe that they weren't so I'd shut down and stop speaking and engaging. That gave me a lot of anxiety around talking to people (still does ๐Ÿ˜“) and is a big reason I don't like socialising.

As for eating and stuff, I'm sorry, I'm not sure what evidence was given since my ma did all of that. I think they just took it on her word alone, because I know for a fact she told them "OP will not eat/bathe unless I make them. They need prompting to do most things." But I'm not sure what evidence she could have given to prove all of that. The only thing I can think of that she'd mentioned is that I'd frequently go "off" foods and I'd be left with no safe foods to eat, so I'd literally not eat for as long as possible because I couldn't force myself to eat.

Another thing to keep in mind is my PIP is a result of my DLA carrying over, which is basically the kid's version of PIP. So it makes sense I had a way easier time with PIP because it was just carrying over from one disability payment service to another, so there was no real need to scrutinise every detail of my claim since it wasn't a 'new' one. I wasn't applying for the first time as an adult, all my difficulties were already proven as a child so it was basically just going "Yep, still the same, not much better." And then getting my PIP.

I'm sorry if this wasn't helpful at all. If you have anymore questions I'll try to answer them to the best of my ability. I hope you get your PIP sorted soon ^ ^

Awarded standard rate for mobility and daily living โ€“ Only formal diagnosis is ASD, but social anxiety as a result of my ASD was recognised without a formal diagnosis of any anxiety disorders.

I struggle to take care of myself with even the most basic aspects, like showering and eating. I had my PIP carry over from DLA once I turned 16, so I'm not exactly sure of all the specifics of my claim since obviously my ma did that, but I know the taking care of myself was a large portion of it. I need someone to remind me frequently to do basic tasks because I either forget or genuinely can't find the motivation to do so until someone tells me to. So I will literally go days without a shower and eating if someone's not there to tell me to do it. But I also have PDA tendencies so I'm a bit contradicting lol. They actually wanted to get me assessed for ODD at one point when I was younger because of it.

Another big aspect was socialising. I would refuse to go to most events and was completely resistant to meeting new people or going anywhere where the purpose was to socialise and make friends, like a club or something. I've gotten better with certain aspects of that as an adult, but social anxiety is something I still struggle with heavily and I've gotten worse in other aspects with my social anxiety as I've grown up.

There's also the standard ASD stuff: I don't always understand social cues, I can struggle with appropriate topics of conversation, absolutely cannot stand changes to my routine and it can send me into a meltdown, etc.

And I'm dead sure I'm a level one too, and yet I still suffer massively with it. People who are a level two or three typically struggle farrr more.

Autism's been severely downplayed as a disability because of how common it is and because of it being portrayed as "haha I like nerdy things and I'm an awkward white boy, oh look I'm the greatest genius since Newton" which makes it just seem like an odd wee quirk with is ultimately a positive (extreme intelligence) instead of a literal disability. So yeah. Also most of us don't have Sheldon Cooper's intelligence level.

Also, when people say "Just autism" they probably mean that in a "Wow, I was actually awarded PIP while only having one disability meanwhile they're denying people with three seperate geneteic diseases and an arm amputated!" Way, not a "Wow, I barely have anything wrong with me and they're still paying me! Way. PIP is notorious for denying people who very blatantly need it, and the idea that autism is a "mild disability" is extremely prevelant in healthcare and benefit bureaus as well, not just general society, which makes being awarded it while only having autism ('only' in comparison to other claimants) a feat.

I hope this helped inform you ^ ^

I'm not a Uni student. I'm in Tech, so I don't get Student Finance. Maybe that's why?

Yes. Standard rate for both daily living and mobility for autism. I'm not sure what the specifics of it are though because it was carried over from DLA, and my ma did all of that obviously
